    Ipswich fan in peace.

Having a debate / argument over on our forum and someone suggested putting it to the poll over here. Maybe you can help.

Try not to bias the outcome... by the way, as soon as it's ahead the other way the poll is closing.

He played both but was better when given freedom. Its why he was **** for England; too rigid.

The poll was setup up without the option of seeing who voted and how. Can't change it afterwards despite it giving the options to change it

Nevermind... we can trust not to play dirty and one vote isn't going to settle it either way.

We often played three at the back in a 352 system back then allowing Macca a free role behind Fowler and Collymore/Rush.

Majority of Fowler's goals were assisted by Macca

well since the question which role he was best known for i'm going winger however it was just a description as he always had a fair degree of freedom to roam.

    he wasn't a winger after about 94 or 95.

now.... at real he would have been considered differently.

    IMO free role.

Not many people had Sky in those days so he may as well have been playing on Mars as in Spain.

My recollection was of Liverpool and England, McManaman terrorising centre backs with his runs and dribbling into the box from either side.

McManaman was a winger until Roy Evans took over '94 and gave him the freedom to roam which paid dividends. Him and Fowler had a great partnership on the pitch. So in terms of the poll, it's a tick in both boxes which it won't allow <ok>
