Syd you cant think that way, age isnt the thing at all.. A friend of mine is burying his 26 year old daughter today (cancer) only 6 weeks since she gave birth to her 2nd child. That puts the world in total perspective for me mate.

I cant even begin to imagine what his thoughts are about today at all.
 
ive got a canny while till the big 60 and im happy enough with the squad, just down to putting the strongest team out.

Oh I know it can take you any time Cest, it seems very, very unfair and it is. I'm 63 next month and TBH have been a right bastard in my day. I have seen many very good people go, far, far better people than I could ever hope to be. I dont know how we got to this, was meant to be a bit more light hearted than this.

To lose a child must be the worst thing, cant begin to imagine what its like.

I just presumed we all went on for ever and ever.

I'm 26 and have been a season ticket holder since the sol opened. I'm just inside the BIB zone, maybe this is because in my young support I have already witnessed two record relegations and I know how much better the club are as a whole now and how lucky we are to have Short and Quinn at the helm. I know stability is the key but this can't happen if bruce is turning over 10 players every season. Truth is that now in his 3rd year our summer transfer policy should have been about brining in 2 or 3 quality players to try and take us to the next level. Its because the club are in its best position I've ever known that I expect more, that goes for every level from Short, Quinn, Bruce and the players.

Well balanced and probably a less entrenched position young man, than me at least and I concur. Its the frustration that really burns me up. I think we can be so much better than we currently are but I do accept we are better than we were 5 years ago. Whether we can be all that we can be under the current regime is the debate and I guess we shall see in the coming months.
 
I'm 62 as well, Syd, and am very firmly in the BOB. I would have had Bruce out at 11:01 PM on August 31st after completing an excellent summer recruitment campaign but before he gets to ruin it with his management methods.

I don't think it's an age thing. As we get older and "wiser"(?), we know that there's not much we can change here as supporters but we can, in our "wisdom", still think we understand what is going on. But "think" is the operative word. From what I've seen on these boards, supporters of all generations seem to be split between the two camps. Mind you, I don't know who is how old so that last statement is not a very "wise" one.

I don't believe we older supporters are more tolerant and subdued. I am 100% behind Cest but I'm just not as vehemently expressive a person as he is.

On the question of this "mortality thing" you mention, Syd, I am like Argus - it hasn't hit me yet. Again, I don't think it's an age thing. I was called in by my bank manageress the other week who said that she wanted to see me as I would have to start thinking about retirement soon. She was a bit taken aback when I said I have no intention of retiring at 65 and that I had just gone freelance in anticipation of becoming 65 (when I can no longer earn a salary in Switzerland but have to be self-employed). She told me she was 53 and for the last ten years has had only one thing on her mind - retirement "if she gets there" unquote.

I didn't tell her that I run 10 miles every day with the aim of signing for the veterans' team of the football club for whose junior girls' team my daughter plays. My bank manageress just would not have understood the concept. It's not an age thing.

I'm blessed with four gorgeous girls and like you say I can't even imagine your friends position.
It's a pathetic response I know but it just makes me want to hit something. Hard.

A very wise man - can't remember who - said that a man can only hope for two things from life: to see his grandchildren and not outlive his own children. My thoughts are with your friend, Cest.

I think that applies in every aspect of life to be honest. The experience and wisdom of a long life changes the perceptions of anyone.

Understanding what really is important in life, taking a step back on less important things and ultimately having experienced successes, failures and the undeniable occasional requirement for patience. You don't truly learn and accept things like that until you've been through enough in life.
 
So maybe chats is an activity thing because since I retired I certainly seem to have aged. I led a very active and stressful work live and longed for retirement, could not wait and maybe I simply need routine in my life that work and career gave me.

Dont know how I got here but this thread has done me good. Thanks to everyone who said their bit.

Thats a nice post lads. Got to say its been a funny old day today. You shouldnt ever see the burial of your kids. I have a young daughter and I would be a lost soul without her.

I agree with all the above, do you think Bruce is a victim of his own success? He gets good players in and gets them playing well, that attracts the bigger side and bigger money so they want to leave.

When they leave other good players want to come in because they see us as a stepping stone??
 
After all the anger and frustration vented on this forum over the past 48 hours, it's reassuring to know that most of us have the ability to put life into perspective.

I really don't know how I would cope with a personal disaster such as those already mentioned and I pray to god I never need to.

Having a kickabout with my grandsons ( aged from 1 to 8) is still one of lifes most enjoyable experiences for me, even though they are all based down south and Spurs fans.

I look forward with relish to the day I can take them to a match (either here or London) so they can hopefully develop a similar passion for a club.

If I'm denied that opportunity, I see that as major disappointment for all of us.

took my grandson, aged 7, to his first away game at Hibs then his first derby this season. He says he aint going again because we never score when he goes so its boring. Dont know how to tell him its usualy like that.
 
Is Bruce a victim of his own success? Could very well say yes. People can throw all the stats out they want, the most important is that in his first two seasons we have gone up 6 places, 3 each season and because of this we now expect more. However I don't think we can be sentimentel, if things don't go well this season I think we need to shake Bruces hand thank him and move on.

With age does come a sort of maturity, I no longer feel like punching every Mag I see in the face. :p

Because lets be honest everyone has done something wrong at one time in their lives, and are due to spend time with the big red guy. :p
