Yeah, unfortunately when D’amato died that was when the wheels started to come off. He was a father figure to Tyson and about the only person who could keep him on the straight and narrow. After that, he didn’t train properly, and by his own admission he drank like a fish and snorted a trainload.
Totally disagree mate, as an ex-boxer myself, granted at the end of my career in 86, Tyson fought and beat some beasts. Pinky Thomas was rated as the one to beat him, never happened. When he hammered Marvis Frazier in round 1 you knew there was something special about this lad and hammering Berbick for the titles was one of the best demolition jobs ever, to be a 2 handed fighter and as fast as he was, was a delight for boxing fans. He beat and swept up so many in the late 80's, Tucker, Biggs, Tubbs, Holmes and Spinks who were all very good fighters. BTW, Larry Holmes for me was one of the greatest Heavyweights ever, a great man with a head like a peanut..
Don’t get me wrong mate I was a massive fan, in his pomp he was an absolute beast, and yes of course he beat some decent opponents. Holmes was way past his best when he faced him and Spinks was never a genuine heavyweight btw,
Holmes was still a great fighter though and like when he fought Ali and constantly asked the referee to stop the fight, Tyson did the same for him. Spinks was a bloated light heavyweight who was knocking down all in front of him at the time, and at that time he would have knocked down Holyfield. Spinks was terrified of Tyson, I have seen those eyeballs of fear in the ring. The hype that was around Spinks before that fight fuelled Tyson up and Spinks knew that, it's all right having a gob but you need the tools and balls to back that up, Spinks had neither. I still admire Tyson, for everything he did for boxing and every great fight he fought. He was well and truly screwed by the **** that hangs around boxing, greedy horrible people without an ounce of fight, humanity or bollocks in them. Pure scum..
I think this one, is beyond him tbh. Usyk is a beast and I think he’ll be too strong for Tony, so I think he’ll retire him tonight. In a strange way I think that’s the best result as he’s said he thinks this will be it, and his trainer has said he won’t train him for another fight, so it ending with a heavy defeat is probably apt. I’ve written him off before though and he’s made me look a mug, so it’ll be a good watch that’s for sure.
Have to agree mate, he's shocked people before but I just can't see how he wins tonight. Think you're right about it being a fitting end too.
