I find all this supposed positivity around the England squad a bit weird. I mean the World Cup has sort of given a shine to a turd, got to the Semi by barely playing anyone good.
Take tonight, Spain are probably at their worst since before the tiki-taka revolution and the their eventual success, where as England are being billed as at their best for decades. And Yet I still (and always did) expect Spain to win tonight.

The world cup has to be seen for what it was not the end result.

If you only look back and see semi final and so close to final with extra time then sure England are awesome.

If you look back with realism you see a team that was disjointed but to huge advantage of var to score off set piece as nobody could block a run or hold a big man back. A side that beat two really poor teams in groups, then scraped by a side that didnt even try play football until it was too late before a qf v Sweden which was easy and then lost to first half decent side faced.

England are playing a properly good team tonight, are far too narrow and also are light in midfield so Spain are all over them... this is a proper test of Southgate now. His team lacks proper shape, just like wc. Can he adjust

the general play shows how desperately england need one creative outlet in the middle. rashford, kane, alli and lingard... just can't do it.

tbh that's a decent result for England.

they did ok there and the usual can't touch keeper **** disallows a goal that's ok

Spain..

good footballing side but didnt threaten as England made it hard for them

The truth is in the fun up to game the **** made some comment or other do prob some engurlund bods decided to rest his resolve.

Mo Salah: Liverpool forward scores twice as Egypt beat Niger

Mohamed Salah scored twice, provided two assists and missed two penalties as Egypt beat Niger 6-0 in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Liverpool forward saw a first-minute spot kick saved but quickly set up Marwan Mohsen for the opener.

Ayman Ashraf slid in a second before Salah had another penalty saved, but this time poked in the loose ball.

Salah headed in a fifth after setting up Salah Mohsen before Arsenal's Mohamed Elneny completed the win.

Salah could have had a hat-trick but Mohsen over-hit his pass to the forward, who was faced with an open goal towards the end of normal time.

It was the perfect start for new coach Javier Aguirre, who replaced Hector Cuper after Egypt's exit from the World Cup.
