No **** wants Washington and he can at least cover a wide midfield role if absolutely necessary. Sylla is dreadful and scoring one tap-in every four games doesn’t change that.
This suggests he is the most effective of these 4 at Championship level. Doesn't really matter where they score from they all = 1 goal! Historically speaking... Championship stats: Sylla: Games=61, Goals=18, Minutes Per Goal=165 Hemed: Games=81, Goals=28, Minutes Per Goal=180 Smith: Games=154, Goals=36, Minutes Per Goal=206 Wells: Games=144, Goals=45, Minutes Per Goal=235
Saw that earlier. It must be hugely skewed towards his earliest games cos I can’t remember him doing anything for ages whereas Smith was very effective last season. Sylla can also be guaranteed to offer absolutely nothing else either.
Les and McClown were at Chelsea U23 v Derby yesterday, watching Chris Martin (who scored) and George Thorne, and hopefully looking out for some defenders to bring in too.... Chelsea U23 0-1 Derby County U23 - recap the action as Chris Martin secures Stamford Bridge win - Derbyshire Live https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/chelsea-derby-county-u23-live-1936103
according to Sunday People, QPR are after 3 Derby players on loan, a winger, striker and midfielder - two of whom Steel has identified. There are rumours that Portsmouth want to take Smyth on. How many on loan players can a club play at one time - is it 5 or 6? I have also read that McLaren says he is a good coach to good players - so not a good manager then. Comments like that are hardly likely to motivate the players.
Our problem is that we have no January window or the money for purchases ... so that leaves loans as our only option. Whether we can buy or not next year is another thing ... but at least we will have tried out some of the players. That’s my ‘spin’ on it. We certainly need that centre back. SM has a number of ‘sound bites’ going around that aren’t the most endearing to the squad as a whole. Feels a bit as though he has his favourite ‘children’ and some could get a little miffed. I would be very surprised if a manager of his experience would fall into that trap - possibly just papers picking their copy and straplines.
Another midfielder and another striker? ? We need a defender....... Don't send Smyth out anywhere!! Pretty much anyone can be a good coach to good players, what does that prove?
The important general point is that business is not complete yet. I'm pleased with that and look forward to what surprises we have in store. Only slight negative is to consider when we last had a Chelsea loanee. Mancienne ??
The clubs fell out over the Anton Ferdinand thing so we are the only Championship team without four Chelsea loanees.
Certainly agree there. Privately, had egg on my face on those two new strikers against Wigan. Strikers? But no, they proved me wrong and they played well. Another defender, (or two?) is surely necessary as a matter of urgency. Hope club makes every effort to find one on a loan basis, of course.
Martin has been top of McClarens list all summer but I would have thought bringing in Hemed would have ended that interest. Could be an interesting week.
Jon Bamba is a good MF player as is Soumaoro DF Both of LOSC I would of been looking st this quality in July and say No Deal to the EFL and here we are fined and embargoed
Just so I understand the strategy, we got rid of players to save money and then we're going to loan back in a similar number of players anyway? Are Wells and Hemed saving us money compared Mackie and JET or have we made a typical error of judgement and are trying to get out of it (at further expense to the club)? Are we talking a similar strategy for the defence? What material progress is there (Smithies 3.5 million fee is being stretched quite thin and presumably won't end up covering losses elsewhere)?
It’s always worth looking the other way they want us to look imo Us fans just focus on results How the club can justify getting in loan players is beyond me ? Wages must be higher surely and of course they aren’t ours We are the Wonga
