The motorboats used for the trips from the hotels aren't owned by the hotels though.

    A lesson learned.

We also went out on a desert safari, meeting Bedouins and looking through telescopes at brilliantly dark desert skies.

The drivers are picking up locals at security stops putting me on edge coz we dont know who the **** they are and what they've got in their bags.

Not long later some german (I think) tourists were killled on a similar trip by terrorists.

Anyone going to Sharm or Hurghada should stick to the resorts and forget the trips. They're just not worth the ****!

Travelled a fair bit in Mexico down the west coast. There are some sketchy places, but like most of the world, as long as you take the right attitude and don't purposely put yourself in stupid situations where things are likely to go tits up, then you can travese this planet fairly trouble free.

That said, in Mexico I always used to use the 3rd class buses (as they are the cheapest). Somebody warned me about not taking them through the mountains on the way down to Acapulco, as they are slow as **** and often get held up by armed bandits who rob the passengers. But to take a 1st class coach down there instead. I went to the bus station, saw the prices and thought '**** that, I'll take the risk'. Anyway my bus stopped on a mountain rd and I could hear the driver and passengers getting agitated and talking about 'bandidos' and I was like '**** this is it'

Anyway, turns out that the bus in front had got flagged down by some lads who turned out to be armed robbers. They cleaned the bus out, taking money, jewellery, watches, passports etc. I still made it to Acapulco without getting burned though :)

Don't know how long ago that was. Crime has got worse recent years. I haven't been to Mexico since my honeymoon... Tourist zones used to be safe but now there are dead bodies showing up even in the cleaner areas and drug Lord's become more powerful than police.
