When we were rushing his deal through, I could have sworn McNasty was quoted as telling him to hurry up and sign, as 15k a week wasn't to be sniffed at
If someone was bragging to me that they were a professional footballer and on 7K a week, my response would probably be "well you're clearly not that good then" Assumed he'd always been on far more than that and would expect even some of our plodders to be on that sort of wage. The most ridiculous thing about the story was the "Friend" being such a gobshite and then Maddison going on about how expensive his trainers were
He was 19 years old at the time, had never played in the top two tiers of English Football, was out on loan at the time and was only on nearly £400k a year. My heart is breaking for him and had I known at the time I would have organised a whip round to help him buy new trainers!!! I am led to believe that this ' big I am ' attitude sums him up and unless Leicester take a firm grip on him there is a danger that he will p**s his career away like other talented youngsters before.
We'll have to 'agree to disagree' on that one then 1950. As I said earlier, the media making 'mountains out of molehills' DD - Chris Martin was out drinking with guys he went to school with, whereas this seems to have been a 'one off!!!' #NOcomparison PS - This was already on the General thread and did it REALLY warrant a separate thread?????
He has obviously been a complete and utter dick, but in interviews we have all remarked how; sensible, grounded, mature and intellegent he appears. It seems that at least with the wrong influences around him that halo might slip. Maybe he has a clever advisor running his twitter account and briefing him for the press, because he has pretty much always said the right things, even in leaving City. But given his quality performances for Leicester so far I wouldn't write him off as a Martin who at least partially buggered his own career (That is debatable, could he ever have made it higher? With his lacking pace I don't think so) To be fair Maddison is way better than Martin was ever going to be. i think unfortunitely he is like many others with great talent, he has been told as much a little too often. Hopefully this will be the warning he needs to behave better and let his football do the talking rather than his chuffing expensive trainers. It's impossible to not think a bit less of him, but we've all done stupid things in our Youth, I was still doing so uptil.......yesterday probably! I'll still monitor his career with interest, because for all too shorter time he lit up CR with his skill. Bah!
I personally think both are fine , people make mistakes get pissed and have a punch up . To treat footballers like monks is ridiculous. I bet even canarydave and 1950s went out as a young adult and acted a ****.
Storm in a teacup. “Young talented bloke is arrogant dickhead”, absolute shock (not). He was 19, obviously being taunted (we’re only getting their side of the story) and probably a little insecure relatively speaking. I bet he couldn’t think of anything else to say so gave them the only retort that he had in mind. Two years is a long time and he seems a lot more mature now. He matured quickly. Let’s face it, I bet half the premier league players have said/done worse than this. It’s only in the press because a mate punched someone else. It’s not even comparable to Chris Martin.
I don't think he is as bad as Martin who seemed to be out every night but I don't think you will find many Premiership Managers who will tolerate players drinking heavily even if only on a Saturday night. I would also point out that Maddison is Coventry born, bred and educated which is where his mate came from. I know for a fact that Maddison was out every Saturday night unlike Godfrey, Thompson or Lewis. All young footballers are continually warned about these dangers and Premiership Managers won't tolerate it and it was only the other night I was watching a debate on TV when 2 ex-players stated that they are encouraged to settle down and start families early as this keeps them away from these dangers. It is difficult for youngsters not to take advantage of their wealth and status but that is the price they have to pay to stay 100% fit and healthy in order to earn the incredible amounts they earn. If they want to enjoy the mistakes Dave and I made then they have to accept the inevitable consequences. I recall Wilshere being put on a final warning when he was photographed smoking and another Arsenal youngster being kicked out when he was caught in a nightclub at 2 o'clock in the morning. I am sure Maddison is sensible enough to learn his lesson.
As a footballer Super Chris was brilliant under Lambert up top with Grant and Wes behind them. Since leaving Norwich and maturing he hasn't shown any signs of being a problem . I would have happily had him back for a fresh start last January . Now we don't really need him but he's had a pretty constructive career .
I accept that you probably know more about him than I do but all I can say is that if he now reformed and trouble free it does seem strange that neither Derby, where he is under contract, nor Fulham or Reading who had him on loan, seem to want him. In fairness to him I do appreciate that there could be other reasons for this.
