Ok, so these have been around for a while now, but I still see people who actually HOLD the card pressed HARD against the device. The clue is in the name – CONTACTLESS – ie the card does NOT have to actually touch the device to be read and will, in fact, work approximately 1cm (½ an inch) or more away from the device, as they work on a system known as Near Field Communication (NFC).
Next time you use one, hold your index finger under the card and it will still work and if you have Google/Apple pay set up on your smartphone, they work even further away.
