There are extreme views and there are extremist views. Christian Scientists have extreme views. JIhadis have extremist views.

I have no problem with turbans, skullcaps, headscarves etc. I do have a problem with face covering. Not just religious. Masks during demos too.

And I don't want to encourage extreme forms of Islam
I'd have thought accepting disinterest is less likely to encourage extreme Islam than media driven hysteria.

My wife, who is a corporate communications specialist has just been sent a link to a job, with the strapline ‘who has the courage to take this on?’

Head of EU Exit Communications, Home Office.

Guess what the salary is for this thankless task.

Are you a Catherine Tate fan, Stan?

I knew it was either Dale or Farage, and picked the wrong one! It's illuminating.

Interesting the continued talk of a "Centrist Party" that would include Cable, Umounhaha and Soubry. It may happen. If they're short of ideas for a name, they could call themselves the Lib Dems

I could see myself voting for a centrist party at some point, but not one with ****ing Anna Soubrey in it!

That, unfortunately, is the problem with any centrist party run by 'rejects' from other parties. You'd probably have to accept tossers like B-liar and Mandlebollox in senior roles. Our parliament has produced an inordinate amount of c*nts over the past couple of decades, what have we done to deserve them?...

It’s a real fix mate. Media driven, ignorance inspired hysteria is to be avoided, with a vengeance. But the religion (and all others) is a shining example of ignorance in action. Plus an unknown % of the women are wearing these clothes against their wishes. I’d love just to ban all religion but it doesn’t work like that. Many more generations eroding ignorance needed. By which time we will all worship snow and rain given the way the weather is going.
Not enough would be my guess.....
It’s a bit subjective. I don’t think so, but many would think it huge.

no, so I don’t get the reference

If it is a government position they normally don't like to pay.

I agree with your statement but Higher. It’s Head of Communications for something quite big, not a new graduate job.

I suppose a supplementary question would be how much do you think it’s worth?

Seriously, can't be less than £100k?...
Yes it is.

£75k. Which is a decent salary, but for that kind of job you should be looking at someone at the top of their profession, very experienced. As a comparison contract professionals in this area, working for big companies on six month contracts (without pension, sick pay, holiday pay to be fair) will earn as much, or nearly as much, in middle to senior ranking roles. They will also work ****ing hard. This job hardly offers job security, and if they get someone in from outside the civil service (and they are obviously trying) the pension becomes pretty immaterial if they get someone with the necessary experience.

They're taking the piss...
See above. I agree. My wife laughed when she saw it. An impossible job where you will be crucified daily.

Regardless of position on Brexit we are shy of talent. At the beginning of last year I was chatting to an old friend of mine, who I worked with in Hong Kong in the early eighties. He was a trade official for Hong Kong in Geneva [WTO] and then in Brussels to the EU until 1997, then joined the EU and is a Deputy Commissioner of Trade there (in some obscure area, nothing to do with Brexit). He was a little nervy because he will be kicked out (with compensation and pension, just like when he left HK) when we leave, but to be honest he will be at least 59 then and is loaded with pension, he could have retired ages ago.

Liam Fox tried to poach him to go to work for the UK government. This is a man who has worked at the highest levels of international trade for over 25 years, gets invited to talk at conferences and symposia, is used to negotiating trade deals on a daily basis. His actual salary with the EU isn’t that huge but the package is more than decent. The most that the UK government could offer him was £120k pa. To his knowledge none of the other Brits working for the EU had taken up the offer at that time.

She has a character who asks a colleague a question, say guess how far she walked over the weekend, and badgers the other girl for an answer then flies off the handle when she gets the wrong answer. Not at all a fair comparison, but your question reminded me of the sketches and amused me
