That's just not true, he had a couple of good games but was largely anonymous/poor last season. Koeman, Puel, Pellegrino & now Hughes don't rate him as a starter, they're not all incompetent. Puel made the most effort with him and tried him in a few different attacking roles, mainly wide right or behind the striker but ultimately he never made himself undroppable.

Puel started him regularly, he was a bit younger under Koeman. He wasn't poor last season when he played in my opinion.

You don't get selected for England (as he did under Puel) without impressing in some way for a number of games in a row.

Would saints post this tweet this morning with a picture of JWP attached if we were about to sell?

He played a total of 1902 PL minutes under Puel, he played 1727 last season so not much difference at all. We'll agree to disagree about his form last season, but outside of a couple of games he was largely anonymous IMO.

I remember him getting a call up for England, and he was impressive around that time, but every player is capable of putting a run of form together over a few games. If Ward-Prowse was as good as some people seem to think, he would have played for us in a regular position.

He had a good run of games starting under Puel in the second half of the season, he never had a run of consecutive games starting last season under the tinkerman is my basic point.

You do realise that last season he had his best run of starts for us? He had 8 PL starts in a row and started 14 of 17 Premier League games between December & April last season. Your point doesn't work.

Or if he got played for us regularly in a position you would see he was as good as some people seem to think.

Lots of rumours though on social media that Welbeck is discussing terms today with a medical tonight / tomorrow. Believe it when I see him in the saints kit, as we’ve been here many times before as the transfer window is about to shut.

he also had better per minute stats than any of our other attacking midfielders which I posted on here at the time but was dropped anyway.

Rumour is definitely gathering pace.....time for a thread?

Those stats (chances created & key passes) are padded by his set piece & crossing abilities. That's why I said I'd keep him and play him as a right wing back. His possession stats were below all all of our other midfielders last season, and the season before that.
