True. But he hardly ever played as Walker had the position. Since Walker left he’s come on leaps and bounds and was one of the best players at the WC.

If Walker were still with us he’d have trouble dislodging Tripper now.

Except we didn't swap the 2 as we already had Tripper. Buying Aurier was an awful idea. Strengthening City was a terrible idea.

Yes, but again, Trippier would probably not have got his chance had Walker stayed. So, I think it’s worked out very well for us.

City would've won the league with or without Walker though. £50m was good business for both clubs, City got a good RB, we got about £20m above his market worth while having his replacement already at the club. Admittedly we wasted money on Aurier but providing Trippier can get fit within a few weeks we hopefully won't have to see much of Aurier, there were even rumours Napoli want him, hopefully there's a bit of truth in that.

I think they wanted to leave because they no longer subscribed to the aims and ethos of Pochettino. Still good players but no good to us if they no longer believe in the project. Only tine will tell if they were right or wrong

To be fair to Walker his decision to leave has been justified, he won the double with City and will likely win many more trophies over the next few years.

I don't think Toby will be joining a Utd side that'll win much any time soon. Can't see them beating City to the Prem, not good enough to win the CL, may win a domestic cup or two so if that fulfils his ambition then so be it.

Thing is, if players don't see the squad being sufficiently strengthened such that they will be able to win medals before they retire, they will try to move on (if they have any kind of ambition). It's not as if we haven't had the money. The £60 million we spent on N'Koudou, Sissoko and Janssen could have bought us a top notch striker to compete with and possibly complement Kane, when required.

Who could we afford, either with transfer fee andwages, that could realistically compete with Kane or Eriksen?

We're never gonna spend £48m on a striker while we have Kane. No £48m calibre striker would even want to join us, as playing second fiddle to Kane wouldn't be on their agenda.

Even that Chav legend Morata said he could not compete with Kane and he cost about £60mill

    Morata <laugh>

Can't believe they replaced Costa with him. Costa was/ is one of the best in the world and a key starter for them. Morata's never even been the best striker at any of his past clubs!

A striker of that quality wouldn't have to play 2nd fiddle; it's a squad game. Better than having a completely knackered Kane at the end of the season. Some games might require both players; maybe a number 10 type attacker is the answer. The point is that we would have options. How many of N'Koudou, Janssen and Sissoko have worked out for us? Better to get proven quality if you're going to spend £60 million than throwing it away on
    • the same mistake made with N'Jie
    • a striker from the Erdivisie that more often than not doesn't work out
    • a player everyone knew was a pile of sh*t
I said all of this on this forum during the 2016 transfer window and haven't changed my mind at any point.

Well we are twice as rich as most other clubs anyway so who gives a ****? You'll only spend the money on ****e like Moura and Sissoko anyway.

Come on then mate what's the going rate, given you could effectively keep him with the stroke of a pen for two more years and he's rated as one of the best centre halves on the planet.

I'm assuming £75m is a fair price given what LFC paid for that *****donkey.

I'll bet you a month's wages he won't come to United for more than £75m.

They would be second fiddle. Our formation means only one striker plays and that will always be Kane providing he's fit. Even when he was fatigued at the end of the season he was still scoring goals for fun. That's why we signed guys like Janssen and Llorente, who knew they wouldn't be first choice, the problem however is that they weren't good enough when called upon. No striker of elite calibre will join Spurs while Kane is here, not a chance.

You only seem to want to highlight bad signings, what about Rose, Davies, Trippier, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Wanyama, Dier, Alli, Dembele, Eriksen, Son... You have to take the rough with the smooth, every club makes poor purchases, no side in history has a 100% success rate with signings.

I think that they left was enough time for them.

Ps Ethos of a small club doesn’t pay the bills.

I'm talking about 1 transfer window where we bought the 3 players mentioned when we all knew that with 1 quality addition we could have kicked on.

You can never determine what a quality signing is until they've had chances.

We never knew someone like Alli for just £5m would become one of the best players at our club. Equally we could never have predicted that Janssen would've been so poor after he lit up the Eredivisie.

We signed Sissoko off the back of a great European Championships, Levy/ Poch obviously hoped we'd be getting that Sissoko, not the dud version.
