Seems like it's a good time to play you!

We are a shambles of a football Club. I can't see anything but a Sunderland win.
First day always throws up some surprise results. We drew at Man City 0-0 the year we were relegated with a depleted squad.

It's probably a good time to play us before we get into our stride, however long that is going to take.

It is true that the first day of the season can throw up freak results.
And even the performances can't really be taken to indicate much about what is to come later in the season.

This is still true (lessening by degrees) for the first four or five games really.
Almost every team will take time to settle down. So no need for euphoria or panic when that final whistle blows on Saturday... :emoticon-0140-rofl:<wah>

How strong is your team looking this season ?
Very strong, tbh. We were all worried one month ago and would have been grateful for a top half finish after two relegations. The new manager has been amazing, we played St Mirren and although they aren't the strongest opposition that was the day we clicked and beat them 6-0. Then we played Middlesboro on Friday at the Riverside, we both put our strongest teams out and we were comfortably the better team until the storm came down and the game was cancelled.

We've signed a lad named Dylan Mcgeough, he's a centre midfielder and was named in the SPL team of the season as well as winning players player and fans player of the year for Hibs. He has been outstanding, he's on another level. At least a quality championship standard player.

I'm usually pessimistic, but I can't help having a good feeling about this season. They'll probably be more than 35 thousand at the game on Saturday.

Good to hear. It’s a proper football club.

We are, very sadly, a basket case.

After 4 years of a negligent, absentee, delusional, idiotic and asset stripping arsehole as owner, our 113 year old South London working man’s football club is truly on its arse. The EFL has looked the other way.

Blackpool Mark 2.

That's really sad. I was at the play-off final and since then I've always had a soft spot for your club. You sound like us from the past 5 years. Sometimes you have to really crash and burn to build yourself back up again. We've gone from having a team full of internationals to signing O'Nien from Wycombe and Baldwin from Peterborough. It's a reality check, but I'm now looking forward to hopefully see my club build itself back up.

Fond memories of the Mackem fans from that day. Shared a train with many of them after the game from Wembley back to Marylebone. Despite their disappointment, still remember many of them shaking our hands. Proper gentleman.

That's nice to hear <ok> - I need to go and open my shop now, but it's been nice chatting.

Good luck for the season ahead.

Cawley reporting this morning that Bolton's Magennis bid has been accepted, and that Bolton have also bid for Bauer [which has been rejected <whistle>]

Ajose has attracted interest from foreign clubs - looks like he will be moving too this week.

With Fosu and Taylor out injured, that leaves us Karlan Grant up front <doh>

If Charlton offers any of those players a contract it leaves Bowyer's aim of improving our squad from last season totally discredited.
None of those players are better than what we already have. Anyone can see that.

I've read a couple of positive comments about Rohan Ince's performances, although you have to question why the lad finds his career in this position at his age.

The others are just freebie donkeys...journeymen. To think we used to fume about Kevin Foley and Andrew Crofts <whistle>

I would agree Rohan Ince is the least poor of the three.
But still not an improvement on last season.

I fully get this need to toughen our squad up, but there are some good tough players out there - they are just not the unemployed ones.

Bowyer has been mugged off (surprise surprise) and he has practically admitted as much.
Credit to him for not just caving in immediately and signing these characters. The man still has his pride.

Post from Chicago Addick, I agree with every word.

So let’s get this right:

Magennis to leave

One other to leave

No one coming in

The trialists LB is not sure about

Taylor injured

Fosu out for 6 weeks

Clarke, Reeves, Igor longer

LB unsure on his status

6 days to the new season

It looks increasingly probable that our back up centre forward and back up goalkeeper at Sunderland will both be 17 years old.

What a time to be alive.
