We have a new No.14 and he's signed a 2 year loan deal. No doubt he's getting a bung and pretty good wages but that a great deal by the Club. He fills a gap until he's 29; leaves capital for other signings; if it works we are confirmed in the EPL and if not we can offload without being stuck with a long term contract. Whilst the deal definitely feels like some FFP dodging, I'm pretty happy with this signing. He and Sessegnon as our wingers either side of (hopefully) Mitrovic is some front three. Still need to add a good overlapping left back (Targett or similar) and a centre forward in not much time, but this should give us a clear favourite on the right wing.
Schurrle seems to favour the left side, even though he is naturally right footed, and in bits of the friendlies so far Jokanovic has had Sessegnon on the right. Wondering if he has in mind switching the pair? Most of me hopes not but whatever, the two don't half give us attacking potential.
Sessegnon ended up on the right quite a bit towards the end of the year when we were lacking in that department, so I fully expect him and Schurrle to switch it up and try to keep the opposition guessing through the match. Jokanovic does seem to prefer his wingers going outside (unlike Roy, who preferred his wingers cutting in) so Schurrle's right foot is more likely to be on the right, at least initially.
Schurrle can play in a lot of positions, reckon we'll only see him play LW when we're at home against a weak team, otherwise expect he'll be on the right hand side or playing through the centre. He's dropped off a bit, mainly because of injury, but looks a good candidate for a riverside renaissance and cult hero status.
