If we take the claims of a £150m transfer fund at face value, what's that going to get us?

Pavard/De Ligt - £50m
Ndombele - £45m
Grealish - £10-15m

At that point KANE'S BACKUP boils down to activating Rondon's release clause, bringing in Jann-Fiete Arp from Hamburg...or kidnapping Martial and telling Expensive Stoke that he'll be signing for us by the end of the day and there's nothing they can do about it, and if they want a replacement they can have Marcus Edwards on a season-long loan - but if they accept that loan, they forfeit any right to submit a complaint to the Premier League.

I have no idea where I got the idea for that last scenario from. None at all...

So, a couple of weeks or so left. What are we thinking?

Is a massive deal out of left field about to come our way? Will Levy silence all of the people slagging him off? Let’s remember Poch signed a new contract, so must have been given some assurances, especially regarding his comments about early transfers. We’re also moving into a new stadium and it’ll add huge publicity. Has Levy promised Poch a bale-like transfer but told him that it may take some time?

Or is it just another standard window? Business done late. No “£150m warchest” that we were led to believe. Uninspiring signings where we miss a trick.

I honestly believe it’s going to be the latter, but part of me feels that this is just too much of an opportunity to pass up 1 top drawer signing at least.

£150m warchest:

Zaha £60m
Grealish £20m
Kovacic £40m-£45m

Then some spare change for a last min signing.

Too late already for me

We should have the players in by now so they can integrate. One, we won't buy anyone for the first team and two the players we do buy, if we buy..will 'not be ready for the first team' come the first game of the season. Then they will get the 'didn't have a full pre season under Poch' as a buffer. Not good enough for me...yeah I know we have got a shiny new stadium...but we have also got a team on the pitch that needs what it needs. Our current squad is not getting younger...but I'm sure their desire is getting stronger to win things. Sometimes I get the feeling we are being duped into believing that one day this team will click and then we will go on a trophy haul for the next decade.

I'm one of these weirdos that wants to see us lift some silverware and if Poch and the club think that it's only about the PL and the CL then it's going to take more than Aston Villa wonder kid Jack Grealish

Villa want £40m for Grealish don't they?

Being young, English and talented he’s probably worth £30m in this market but I reckon a good chance we can get him for £20m, potentially less knowing Danny boy.

I've got no issue purchasing him but he won't be helping us get to where we need to be this season.

I'm not so sure. I think he'd play a significant number of games for us and can cover a bunch of positions a hell of a lot better than say, erm, Sissoko

1 or 2 in late as usual probably.

We keep finishing top 4 and I think Levy and Poch are content with that.

I think Levy probably is with the stadium costs hanging over us. A bit like how Arsenal were for all that time (as much as that pains me).
I think Poch wants to win the league. Personally, i'd like him to win _something_ and stop de-prioritizing the cups so much. Winning the prem is difficult, unless you get extremely lucky like Leicester (that should have been us)

They may well be, but they'll also know that Liverpool have improved and City are miles ahead of us, on paper United have a better squad, Chelsea have greater resources and Arsenal at last have a new manager who may take the decisions needed to clear their deadwood out (alert West Ham). So just standing still will probably involve us improving. We'll see how deep our squad is while the WC semi-finalists ease their way back in. A lot rests on Moura and Lamela, if they fire then maybe we have enough up front to compete.

The first few games will be a challenge with unfit WC returnees and Sonny absent for several weeks, but if we retain Toby - and with Moura and Lamela both fully fit and available - I don't think we need too much. :emoticon-0138-think

Grealish is a done deal by all accounts and if we could add a new 'Dembele' then that would be ideal.

I'm still stewing over us letting Sessegnon slip through our fingers :headbang:
