As the season won't have started will someone be desperate?

By the time the window shuts surely only someone looking for a sub on the cheap would want him.

Who knows maybe burnely could do with a experience player for their Europa disaster... sorry campaign

Are we happy enough with Gomez and Klavan as cover for CB? Matip cannot be relied upon.

Have to. I like Matip but he's too injury prone.

Gomez might do an ok job with time.

But win the title. (aim at some point surely) then he's not ready for that level and frankly Matip and klavan and moreno are nowhere near the level.

    VVD fit..
    robertson fit
Clyne maybe fitter and could cover lb
Lovren.. at least fit but still don't go full lovren.
Taa/Gomez as RB (will get done by better players

We need to keep 3 or 4 fully fit the entire season.

    Simple really.

I think Clyne might be a better defensive option than TAA at RB.

maybe but in the end there should be plenty of games to go round.

My view would be keep taa in for all but the top 6 rival games as theres little there to worry him and use his attacking ability.

we can't totally ignore the future here.

Same for gomez. all 3 are likely to fight for a rb slot but at some point the CB slot has to be given to him to play in. a few lover half and cup games i suppose.

I dont even want to know about klavan and moreno I know they will cost us a cup run this season and could well be the cause of us not having a title race if injuries go against us. just the way it is.

If we can keep our best 11 fit and on the pitch we will have a chance but its a long long season.

    One gk in. check
One reliable CB would help (have 3)
One reliable full back option (clyne)
    no 6. covered.
Plenty of midfielders for other 2 roles
3 into 2 for wide areas. loaned one real option out. not happy there...
    no 9... firmino and ? sturrdige? <laugh>

IMO our season could hing on VVD and firmino staying fit. even salah can be covered by shaqirir for a rest (not a long injury)

rememebr the target has to be 90 points - +15 form last year.

    90 points = 30-0-8 record <laugh>

or more seriously chelsea won the title with 30-3-5 record, then city won with 32-4-2

We has 21-12-5 record last year.

So this year is about turning draws into wins and being hard to beat

Watford A 3-3 - poor start. windy header at 3-2 from corner lead to equaliser after fighting back from 1-2 down.
burnley H 1-1 - poor game equalised to draw
newcastle A 1-1 - shocker. 1-0 up and lef tthem in for easy one. played badly
man utd H 0-0 - utd came for draw
    chelsea H 1-1 - willian fluke
Everton H 1-1 - lovren v lewin for pen. game should have been 4 up by then
    West brom H 0-0 - shocker
Arsenal A 3-3 - mingolet last game for us. threw this one away
Tottenham H 2-2 - rubbish after 1-0 up, should have lost fought hard, karius saves pen but vvd fouls lamala who also gives.
Everton A 0-0 - focus elsewhere. reserve team
West brom A 2-2 - 2 up and threw it in bin. stop playing
Stoke H 0-0 - focus elsewhere stoke came for point and got relegated for it.

So.... the stroy generally is either we make terrible errors, or we are not scoring enough.

If you look at it we would have to conver 9 draws into wins in this list.

The thing is there was 9 games there where we could have won!

    watford (leading)
    burnely
    newkie (leading)
    cheslea (leading)
    everton (leading)
    Arsenal (leading)
    spurs ((leading))
    West brom (leading)
    Stoke (not bothered)

Thats the size of the task ahead.

Alisson helps. Salah would need to be mighty again. Vvd would need to be imperious.

But to win this league you should need 90 points.... and city took 100 last year.

We can't afford any poor games or silly errors.

His best games came against the better teams last season. He had Sane in his pocket for 120mins in the CL too

    he did.

he did learn a lot from utd destroying him through deliberate targetting of his channel.

VvD is the key piece of our defence. I’m concerned about losing him to injury as we are clearly not good enough at the back without him. We absolutely need another quality CB. Lovren with VvD is good enough, without him he’s not!! Alisson will help imo.

We should be much better this year but have to let the newbies settle in....but we are still 2 signings from a sustained challenge imo.

    Probably.

The jump from where we got to last year to a title challenge is all about consistency and being solid. You just know when a title winning side scores its game over dont you?

    Cheslea.
    city
    Utd
Even Leicester on their one season.

You just know with LFc that you always have a chance. Just keep plugging away with your system. A set piece or an error are always possible.

Alisson in is to address Karius and mingolet errors. We will see if he does
VVD was brought in and i felt he help organisationally but errors still occurred.
    Robertson helped with moreno idiocy.
TAA and gomez coughed up more goals than karius and lovren combined tbh... but you have to develop them too. We will see if they cut those errors out or not.
Fabinho in for henderson is interesting. I felt henderson is fine for 60mins then he wanders a bit and ends up just 5 yards too far up the park and suddenly we get broken on.

This will all help at the back.

Going forward we scored lots of goals but we still drew a lot of games. Salah cut the lower half up and we averaged 2.6 goals per game v bottom half teams.

the improvement needs to be in consistency and being assured of the win in a tight game. We must sustain the front 3's goals.

    Big ask IMO.

Simon Mignolet is on Barcelona's five-man shortlist of candidates to replace Jasper Cillessen, reports Marca.
    Liverpool to keep Karius
Liverpool are open to keeping Loris Karius at the club despite the signing of Alisson.

Karius has endured a miserable few months after blunders in the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

His has endured a number of errors during pre-season as well, with Jurgen Klopp forced to spend £66.8m on new goalkeeper Alisson.

Karius is expected to be sold this summer but Express Sport understands the Reds boss could keep Karius as his No 2 shot-stopper instead.
