It depends how you see it. This isn’t my opinion by the way, I’m just throwing an alternative angle at it.

Someone could argue that Boufal didn’t deliver. Carrillo definitely didn’t deliver. We replaced Tadic. Sims could be argued as the Boufal replacement (if above is true. What’s to lose) and the right service to Gabby/Charlie (if fit) strikes a cord. Shane still here to run a round and chad people off the bench.

Not my opinion, but a flip side someone could offer.

I can see them settling for one more attacking option. £15-20m and that’s a net spend of £20m (approx) after the left over Dickhead cash.
I think from now on VVD should always be referred to as dickhead. Who's with me?

I hope I’m proved wrong, but I didn’t think he’d make it then and his loan spells at Blackburn and Birmingham haven’t convinced me otherwise.

Not comparing him to Harry Kane but Kane had 3 seasons on loan and scored 16 goals in 65 games in League one to Premier League.

Sam Gallagher has scored 19 in 96 games all in the Championship with all 19 goals coming in his last 81 games.

Most Spurs fans thought he wasn't worth keeping and if memory serves me right he only played due to Europa league matches stretching their squad.

But once he got his chance he kept it. Who knows what Sam could do given the chance, he's a big unit, pretty quick and powerful, I reckon he could do well.

I do realise that I literally compared him to Harry Kane!!!

He is still only 22. I would go as far as to say that he is quite probably a better striker than Rickie Lambert was at 22.

Almost certainly, you just don't know what will happen, many footballers have done well after initially struggling, Lambert, Vardy, Austin, Wise, Phillips all released as youths from good pro clubs, then having to go down the leagues, some to non league teams.

Think Sam has had a solid if unspectacular start to his career but maybe, just maybe he's now ready. He's definitely more suited and will add more than Carillo did so for me if we keep him and don't loan him out, that is an upgrade right there. Not saying another striker can't also be brought in though.

Maybe Ings can job share with Austin, between them they can feature for a whole season!

I don't know why you find that weird, Neither are very marketable atm.. And both had poor seasons considering we were nearly relegated..

I'm not overl surprised by Cedric as I'm not sure he's good enough for a big club. Surprised about Bertrand though, assume we want too much for him considering his age.

Exactly, We'd demand high fees and I personally feel that Cedric isn't that good... He has some good qualities, But seriously let down by his crossing, Decision making,.. and he is a midget.

Lewbster, you may well be right and I hope I am proved wrong. Very rash of me to make a judgement on an 18 year old at that time and in the snippets of the games I’ve seen since whilst he’s been on loan.

Just one of those things that I thought at that time. People got excited when he made those early performances but I wasn’t convinced. Time will tell and I do genuinely want him to succeed and shove my words down my throat.

Fingers crossed for him.

Our rapid rise and concomitant increase in ambition made it harder for our youngsters...as we didn't give them the chances they might have had if we had hung around in the Championship. Strikers and goalkeepers find it the hardest to impress because their failings are there for all to see...whereas midfielders have more protection from criticism whilst they find their feet.

I will be interested to follow Gallagher's progress...whether here or (more likely) elsewhere. Always be one of our own.
