Hasn’t it already been stated that article 50 can be halted/reversed, subject to EU approval, stopping Brexit?
If that is the case, then surely the only reason for us having a “no deal” Brexit is because the government would sooner do that than halt it and take stock.

The Labour front bench policy is quite clearly to vote down any deal to force a "no deal." Kier Starmer and Alistair Campbell can say what they like but the leadership position is not to have a second vote and to leave the EU. They are quite happy to let it happen on the Tory watch.

Yes it can be halted. Yes it can be cancelled. IF both the UK government (and parliament) and the EU agree to do so. Nothing has changed yet in terms of exiting and thus it would just be a continuation "as normal."

That however would be political suicide not just for the Tories but for British politics in general. A vast amount of "voters" could walk away from voting OR be driven to something bad like in Europe.

I don't suppose it would bother many remainers (judging by posts on here and other places) if voting became something only the middle classes upward and "well to dos" took part in. They seem to want that anyway.

Is Mrs May gradually heading towards creating a National Government to bale her out of the mess that is largely her own ?. When she became PM, she should have appointed a Royal Commission (bogus of course) to conduct a study as to the best Brexit that would have been achievable, before launching Article 50.

They should have resigned Friday if they didn't agree. Neither are a loss in my opinion.

I don’t get your last paragraph.
I am a remainer and no way would I like future votes to only be cast by middle classes and upward.
That would return us to feudal times.

Mrs May has a wonderful opportunity to be one of the greatest PMs ever. Solution!! To seek cross-party support for a "Brexit" that appeals to both Remainers, so that means access to the Single Market and Customs Unión, and also a Brexit that appeals to some who voted "Brexit," and not the hardliners who adorn the front pages of the Express, and the Mail. The Sun readership does not count!!!

You mean all of the benefits of being in the EU, but none of the costs? Can't see it happening. That's why the whole Brexit thing is a mess in the first place. Too many politicians struggle to comprehend why the rest of Europe just doesn't give the UK everything they want at their own expense. It's not like there's zero flexibility for a soft Brexit, but not enough to satisfy any of the sides.

I mean, you're not wrong. There SHOULD be a way for some sort of compromise where UK effectively stays in with better terms, whether we call that a "hard remain" or a "soft brexit." I'm just saying, if voters and your government had the logic, foresight, competence, and willingness to pull that off there never would have been a Brexit in the first place and May wouldn't be PM. So it's kind of hard to see May and the Conservatives all of a sudden stop being idiotic jerks. Sure losing Boris Johnson helps, but at this point why not just scrap the whole thing and start over with some people who weren't stupid enough to give Johnson a job in the first place?

    Time for another election.
