I’d like us to get one more year out of Cedric mainly because of the dudes commitment.since he came here he has worked his socks off most of the time for the team, he has been battered and bled for the side and I think any new player coming in to the side to compete for his spot would do well to follow his example. Up until the ball into the box, at that point they could follow their own path or look at Bertrand on the other side. Meant in jest. I’ve a lot of respect for Cedric and what he has given the club.
Not denying the importance of money, but after last season I think the board will go along with what Mark Hughes wants. Selling one of his best players solely because theoretically you can get more money for him now than next season has lost some of its allure. I say theoretically because if Cedric has another good season for us and another richer club wants him, he will still fetch a nice price...if he's wanted I can't see another team saying let's wait another season and he'll be on a free. You buy when you want someone to make sure he doesn't go elsewhere while you dither.
Me too, I have massive respect fpr Cedric as a man and as a pro. And he's improved massively in the time he's been with us. But dare I say it, like Maya he's always been, for me, just a tiny bit shy of the standard I think we need to be looking for.
To be honest, I don't care if Cedric leaves us. He's a top defender, but in his saints career i don't think he even had one assist, and let's not talk about his shooting please. The fact is he's pretty much useless in attack and I wouldn't mind a more balanced full back.
How does that compare with Bertrand? Admittedly Cedrics crossing and shooting are pretty poor but is a good defender as long the ball isn't in the air
And when he plays the ball on the ground, as he occasionally did last season, rather than lofting it into the sky, he can be effective in attack. Just tell him to do that and he's instsntly a better attacking wing back. I've been one of his critics in the past, but now think he's one of our "most improved". His crosses, though Cross it on the ground Cedric ffs.
I think with the short transfer window. We won’t be seeing a lot of players moving. I really don’t want us to sell too many and then have trouble getting replacement players in before the deadline!
This goes for everyone on the team save Bertrand, really. The number of times a sharp ball along the ground or a cutback is on, and we stand one up instead...
I remember hearing a statics last year maybe about Christmas time saying we had the most crosses into the penalty area in premier league!
