I kept being reminded of '66 and our game against Argentina, who Alf Ramsey referred to as animals.

I'm sure if the ref had issued the correct red card we would have seen a similar reaction with Colombia walking off the pitch.

The problem with the ref,was caused by his lack of experience in highly charged games.
He was American I believe.
FIFA deemed the UK refs not good enough,but allow a Yank in,whos standard of football is pretty poor.
Once again FIFA prove how inept they are

I disagree on Sterling. He was much improved yesterday, made good runs, created space and tried seriously hard. His touch was wayward in the first quarter or so, but he warmed up a bit. Obviously he's still a long way from his club performances, but he looked a lot better.

Whilst I'm not a great fan of Sterling, I agree that yesterday was his best game so far !!!!

Generally, England fans seem to have seized on him as the target for ire, sometimes justified, sometimes not.

the system doesn't suit him though. I'd like to see him used as an impact substitute when there's a bit more space

Good post, but while defending him, you have ended at the same point as the bulk of us. He shouldn't start. He's not done enough.

Impact sub is where I'd use him in the next game.

It's the flopping about, rolling 30 times and pretending to cry, that annoys me more. Especially when they jump up and run off straight after.
