Had that been in the PL I might just about agree with you, in the Argentine pub league that’s bang average going on piss poor.

Ok, but Im writing 'relative' in terms of his scoring record elsewhere. I'm taking it as a known that he's a useless goalscorer.

The only vaguely tangible reasoning for his purchase is that particular season he worked with MP2

I don't think that Carillo is anywhere near as bad as some Saints fans are painting him, he never got a great deal of quality service of the kind that he needed, ie high balls in the box, and was played as a lone striker recieving the ball on the ground with his back to the goal and perversely, played through balls to run on to (when we had Gabbi on the bench!).
His face clearly doesn't fit here now and Pellegrino would be quite smart taking him on loan, when his club clearly couldn't afford to buy a player of his quality.

Players are usually given a season 'to settle' into English football. We gave Gaston Ramirez about three or four seasons.

Carillo was given five minutes. While we were at our very ****test.

He's an obvious symbol of the Pellegrino era, that's why he has to go in some fan's eyes.

Me personally believes that there should always be a place in the squad for a Targetman if played in the correct formation.

I'll drive him there myself.

For £20 million and a record signing he didn’t even do anything with the chances given that made me think he was even capable of ever justifying the price tag even if he was given a season to settle. At least with players like Gastón and Boufal you could clearly see they had major talent and potential even when not performing well.

I'm not saying he was good. But I'm not gonna say he was crap either after just a handful of games in a rubbish team with no creativity whatsoever.

Carillo was the biggest of panic buys. Guy isn't a good player sadly

Hang on, I thought the board had been making error after error for the past 18 months? We like them again now?

I can't keep up.

I don't necessarily think they have done much right for 18 months (or even two years) but deciding to get rid of someone they just bought for a huge sum MUST be the result of his ability and not to appease fans who associate him with a previous manager. No board is THAT pathetic...

I don’t know whether the board have an opinion on his ability but Hughes clearly doesn’t rate him so letting him go seems sensible. I suspect he’s getting a slightly rough deal in terms of how good/bad a player people think he is but them’s the breaks.

Haha...

We overpaid masively for him there is no doubt, but I can't judge how good he is from what I saw of him in a Saints shirt, all I saw was a player that was clearly being misused. He should never be a lone striker IMO and he should be fed mostly high ball not into him on the deck to hold up or run on to.

In the past the board might have given Carrillo time to prove himself or at least a second season. He is either seriously poor or the board/recruitment team have decided to be decisive....not the right fit or what Hughes required so he's chopped liver. Not good for personal pride, but a decent season at another club and this will all be behind him.
