Fellaini had a good game for Belgium, threw a few elbows, made a few dirty tackles, kicked one off the line, was in the England defenders faces a few times.

Played to his strengths, no wonder Man U begged him to stay at OT.

Just having a listen to the commentary, the abridged version Columbia will watch that and think Pickford is ****e, rather than watching him for the previous 12 months and thinking he's ****e?

I think this was a cunning plan by southgate. Not to finish second and therefore get an easier draw.

But by playing the second string and getting beat, it saves the embarrassment of playing the first team and errrrm getting beat.

It's a great plan, if you think we can be columbia and Sweden/Switzerland. TheThe press issue is I doubt we can.

I do feel most of the top countries look at is and think are bless them, they are trying very hard.

They have no pity. They are all licking their chops.

For me England are what They are.

This way a credible world cup is possible. Columbia is a 50/50 game. Esp if James is ****ed

Beat Colombia and Swiss/Swedes and Gareth will look like a genius (whether he actually wanted to win or lose is irrelevant)

I agree, we are very much, much of a muchness. Nothing special, no managerial genius, no world class players, just a decent team.

If we get to the semis, most of the population will be happy. The hot weather and Stella Artois will have a big effect.

I get the feeling this cup is a sharade, look good enough to give him another 4 years. Do well in the euros and build for another WC.

To be fair, it's a good strategy

I genuinely don't get you guys. This isn't an excuse for wum. Serious query.

Why are Eng fans so negative. You (generalisation) seem to know you're not the best, have known you're not the best or close for at least what at least 30 years.. why not just enjoy being at the event like all the other nations that aren't good?

I mean, even with what Southgate has been part of which by the way is at least been an attempt by the FA to follow the likes of Spain and Germany in how they organise a national development 10 years behind (Think Germany might prove it has to keep churning and be brave to remove the winning coach at the business end before it gets that tired but no matter)

The league is dominated by foreign owners, foreign players at the elite end and even foreign (in regards to England national team) subscribers to the national league.

Yet the grumpiness, even with a joke with a jag suggests some England if not a lot of England fans still expect more than participation with a bit of luck plus.

I have watched this world cup and only seen one team with a "by far" better attack and not a lot of defence midfields miles better.... all on performance not paper I mean...

I think it's probably more that club football is more exciting so most find the England team boring. That alongside many years of expectation and failure isn't a good combo.

As for me, I do enjoy the tournament's, at least I try to. They're generally not so great nowadays, you don't get the Cameroon's that don't know the rules anymore. This tournaments been better tbf
