I met him after a gig in the 70s. We met a whole bunch back then and he was quite possibly the nicest of them all. Conversely, Ritchie Blackmore and Ronnie James Dio can burn in egomaniacal Hell. Anyway, RG was nearly two hours late but the Glasgow Apollo crowd waited patiently, as the last trains departed, and greeted him like a prodigal son. He returned the favour with a blistering show. I still have my autographed Irish Tour album.

Would love to have seen him live. Some of the live videos of him on Youtube are brilliant. Like a lot of the greats he died to young, but he did like a pint or two apparently
