Yes, Gary said that the new rule was that 'fair play' could now decide who tops the group.

We're currently top of the group by virtue of having less bookings. So yes, draw with Belgium without picking up more bookings than they do, and we top the group.

How good was Kane's first penalty? Absolutely screamed it into the top corner. Not much room for error with that method but shows his confidence! <ok>

Russia finally meet a half decent team and get stuffed 3-0.
Will meet Spain or Portugal in last 16.
No chance,Putin will probably bring in a hit squad
before this game and poison most of the opposition,

Russia rested a few players I believe as they were already through. Golovin didn’t feature for sure and he’s been their best player in the past 2 games

From looking how the groups are laying out. The team that finishes top of our group, goes into the side of the draw with the likes of France, Brazil, Germany, Spain. Therefore, I'm looking forward to Thursday.

If we win, brilliant, keep this great start rolling, doesn't matter who we play really, because the big teams have looked very poor.

If we lose, ok, we are in the easier side of the draw!

My thoughts too. Whilst there is no one playing well enough to inspire fear (maybe Croatia aside) we haven't played anyone yet so, really not sure where we are. Could we be like Russia, flat track bullies but whooped by the first team of substance?

    Bah!

The diving from Argentina is embarrassing. So far Brazil and France have been by far the worst, but Argentina are rapidly racking them up tonight.

Not seen a bad interview from Southgate. Everything he says is calm, intelligent, measured, and true. He's very honest. I was concerned when he got the job, but I really like him. I think he's done a very good job so far. I think he's made the England squad, like a club squad, which I didn't think was possible. The training ground plays and set-pieces have been incredible. A Manager with a bit of tactical intelligence and plans on the Training pitch, put into practice in important games is really refreshing.

No matter what happens from now on in the World Cup. I think he's more than earned the right to keep learning on the job, and continue to push the National team in the direction he's been heading. If he does enough to not embarrass himself like a loss to Iceland type event, where the press will ruin his integrity with the fans and players. Then I think he could start to build something very positive and progressive.

When there are positives I always say it. When there is nothing to be positive to say about, I say that too.

You are just another who only highlight and reply to the negatives.

I've posted a lot of positive posts that have just been let through. Conveniently.

Actually FML, most of your posts recently have been VERY positive, so I can only apologise. <sorry>
IMO, I’ve been very impressed with England’s play, especially against Panama – in previous World Cups, they would have struggled.
Southgate seems to have cast aside selecting players on their reputation and they are playing as a TEAM!!!!
