may well not be the same stuff as often they are brewed under licence .Also we regularly used to export beers at higher OG than the home version .

oh that is perfectly true. buy it booze abroad where it tastes really good get back here and often ,at best, it just tastes ok.
Just pointing out the same brand isn't necessarily same product in all territories - see Alain Baxter GB Winter Olympian for a painful lesson in that fact.
