I am a fan of Targett...he was so promising at the beginning, had bad luck with injury and managerial changes. Would love him to be given time to improve and for him to find his place again at Saints.

And we do have some sort of history of producing some very good LBs of our own.
Not before Wayne Bridge though. We struggled up till then. I always remember David Jones playing him in front of the left back to learn what sort of pass was required. It worked too - he went on to develop a wonderful left sided partnership with Marsden. Makes me wonder whether McQueen and Targett would work together. McQueen is arguably better going forward. Targett the better defender but with an awesome ‘early’ cross.
Dennis Hollywood was signed as an apprentice. Played 10 years for the first team 1962 - 1972.

You seem to have forgotten Steve Mills old chap. Had he not had his career cut short by a car accident then Sansom would have played second fiddle to him in the national team.

Why did we have zero contact with him while on loan if he's a big part of our plans?
Because the club aim to be completely consistent across the board, in their poor communication?
Perhaps we feel that a sense of alienation was essential if Targett is to integrate into the first team.
I am amused at a few comments about people melting down. We aren't melting down. We have melted. We have been so poorly run for two years now that it is very difficult for us to expect anything positive to happen this summer. Believe it or not, we all want good things to happen, but it is now up to the board to get out there and prove they are capable of doing what is needed.
We have £50m left over from Vvd. That is the basic minimum to spend to say "we have not given up". We have obvious squad deficiencies and any competent board would be going all out to fix these. Hopefully our melted confidence is wrong and this is not a realistic appraisal of what the club is doing. I hope we spend well on a few astute selections. I fear, like others, that we won't. Selling Tadic terrifies me as I do not believe the board is competent to replace him.

I like that reasoning. Total Immersion. I hope they told him that would be the case if so
I'm not either, but I'm willing to find out. We need to play these youngsters, Josh Sims too. That doesn't mean though, that we have to sell our best players to make room for them.
I agree. I don't want to sell Bertie, but if we do then we shouldn't be looking to replace him.
If we sell Tadic, on the other hand, we need to buy someone of real quality to replace him. But we should have faith in our options at LB.
