Maybe its because of the daily racist bullying he has recieved from the tabloid press for the past two years.

Takes more than that to have a good World Cup.

Not sure how it can get much more deserving than that to be honest.

Good first half with flashes of very good and flashes of poor play. Second half very poor.

    A tad harsh.

I felt the first half was very good, and with a tad more composure we would have been 5 up.

Second half, Nigeria came at us and didn’t really make any clear chances apart from the goal. I think we went a tad off the boil, and our final ball was non existent.

I’m feeling mildly positive after that though.

I was on one of the threads last year suggesting that SFC could have done a lot worse than to have sold VVD last summer and recruited Loftus-Cheek, Tammy Abraham and one other player whose name eludes me. It could have been a third Chelsea player!!

I don't think I was harsh, just calling it as I saw it.
It was only a friendly though, hard to tell how we'll fair in the tournament based on it. As the commentators said England beat Portugal in their friendly before Euro 2016,...and we all know how that tournament went for both sides.

Phil McNulty’s latest bbc article sums up what is wrong with England.

The slating Sterling is getting in the comments section is a joke. He had a relatively good game yesterday, just lacked with composure, but with the negativity he gets, I’m not surprised.

John Barnes was another England footballer, who was wonderful for Liverpool, but the press found him wanting for England. Barnes was sometimes the target of spitefulness from small-minded "fans." So it appears, this same spitefulness has resurfaced and found another talented English footballer to tarnish.

Why can’t people be a tad more positive, and support their nation. Yesterday’s performance has surprisingly given me hope for the World Cup, and I’m looking forward to it.

Some people are very happy to cheer the national team, others not so!! No problema with either! What is distasteful is the targetting of certain footballers, apart from Jack Wilshere who is a t***, but as he is not playing for England I cannot moan any more!!

If people aren’t happy to cheer on their nation, then why do they bother spewing their negativity? I really don’t get it, if I don’t support something or interest me, I don’t waste my time with it.

To be fair, I was an awful supporter of England because Hodgson wasn’t the right man for the job, and was given far too much time. But I didn’t waste my time commenting on a major corporation website spreading my negativity.

I hope Sterling doesn’t read the BBC website.

I think the last time fans got together behind the national team was in 1996 with Terry Venables. In 1990, it was a slow-burner but the momentum kept building. As people´s expectations are quite low this time around, it is a wait and see situation. I feel England will have a good tournament as a lot of the deadwood has gone. There is an air of freshness about them.
