    alright lads ,
Thought I would share 1 of my best away day memories . only problem is I CANT REMEMBER the date or score as I was only a young kid . it was against Cardiff city late 70,s or 80 81 we need 2pts to go up but we still had a game remaning against west ham . anyway i think we drew with cardiff .
Its starting to come back now (memory) west ham won the fa cup and I they brought it on to the pitch at roker park .
Anyway I remeber there was about 18,000 fans at ninian park and we took about 10,000 . At the begining of the match an older lad came up to me and asked me to start undoing the fence during the game , this I did, the atmospher was ,well as a kid out off this world every part of the ground was full of Sunderland fans at the end of the game the fence got ripped down and for the first and last time I was running on to a proffession football pitch . I think I got to hold on to Stan Cummings ,saw a mate from school who was shouting to me from another part of the ground as I was running about like a mad man waving my scarf above my head as if we had just won the cup .Back at school on the Monday I was still buzzing as my mate was telling people how he had seen me on the pitch . Then I would tell the story of how It was me who ripped the fence down so every body could get on the pitch .OOOOOOOOOOOHH the memorys .:emoticon-0100-smile

Hi bristolcat - Bristol reminded me of one of my worst memories. When Sunderland were in the old third division I watched us play Bristol Rovers at Twerton Park with a Rovers supporter from work. Prematch there was an interview with a Sunderland fan asking him what the score would be - he said we are going to ****ing stuff you lot. Rovers went on to trounce us 4-0. I was in the home end and my 'mate' took great delight in telling all the supporters around me that I was a Sunderland fan. I wanted the ground to swallow me up. Mind you we didn't lose too many games that season and ended up top of the division - I still have the coffee mug to prove it!

Despite the result of that game and living on the Trashton Gate side of town (Bedminster) I must confess to having a soft spot for Rovers - I have been to see a few of their games this season with the same 'mate'. I hope they stay up they have some great fans.

mate if your from round here im all for you going to away games, showing tremendous support week in week out, its when we for example go to spurs and all of a sudden in the sunderland all you hear is "apple and pears" "how much is that, just a monkey mate" " stick me an aryton senna on that"
    its horrible

But they're still wearing Sunderland colours, supporting Sunderland, singing Sunderland songs, spending their "aryton senna's" on seeing Sunderland......it should not matter how they speak, where they live or what they look like.....they support our team!

If you could, would you not fill the empty seats we're getting week in week out at the SOL with these supporters...because i know i would, because it would be of benefit to my beloved football team....and that's all i care about.

You make yourself sound like a biggitted fool sometimes, Chris, look at the bigger picture for once will you?

to be honest mate no i wouldnt prefer it. i prefer loyal local fans to far away fans. if they loved our club they would move back here. to move away is a kick in the teeth to niall ellis and the boys

I remember the Cardiff game, getting into the ground was hell as there were only a few turnstiles open and the crush outside the ground was unbelievable.

It's not though, if they are supporting the club with their money and voice in other places of the world......i love that we will have Sunderland representatives all over the world.....

And you're surely not that thick to realise that, yes Sunderland is a huge part of our lives and so it should be, but other things take priority aswell....like family and work....so although many people would love to live in their home town, it may be of more benefit to them and their family to be away.....yet they can still benefit their club by supporting them from afar.

Say for example (a far fetched one at that) we were to play an exhibition/pre season game in Ghana....the stadium would be full to the brim with Ghanians wearing red and white stripes because of the players we have........would you rather that or the ground be empty apart from a few mental people from Hendon/Ashbrooke/Silksworth etc who are the only ones who have the right to be there to support their team??

If you think that then it is YOU who does not care about this football team
