Realy pleased Henderson and Adam scored, great for their confidence. I think we should not just give Gerrard the automatic spot.
We must make him work for it! This squad is coping realy well without him.
 
For years we've been labelled a "one man team" i.e Steven Gerrard and 10 others.

Now Kenny's building a squad that can cope very well without him. I think the only slot he could fill at the minute would be out on the right hand side for Henderson. Lucas & Adam are developing a good understanding in the middle and complement each others style. Downing and Enrique look superb down our left hand side and Kuyt and Suarez play well as a pair.

I always though as time and injuries catch up with Steven, maybe a roving right back roll.

I think eventualy it will be him behind Suarez, Lucas and Adam behind him. Meireles rotating with Gerrard as he gets older.

I think Caroll is a bigger problem.
 
hed probably be on the bench vs spurs even if he is fit, but soon after he should be in the starting line up, preferably for hendo as I thikn Lucas and Adam are doing very well. Perhaps shift suarez out wide right/left and put stevie in the "hole" behind the striker

I don't see a problem with Carroll, there will be games where he will have a huge influence. He's young and will get better as the season goes on. No panic there for me he'll come good.
 
Gerrard is not automatically first choice. Ok he is club captain but if there is rthym in the midfield don't disrupt it. Would keep gerrard for the big games and also for the FA cup
 
I'd possibly put Gerrard in place of Henderson on the right wing; as a sub for a few times though to see if he's really match fit.

Fair one. I don't want to panic, but he hasn't fit our system as yet. Not quick enough on the ball.

As you say though, it's early days.

The only concern I have is not with Carroll as a player but more on how the team plays around him. Yesterday we played brilliant passing football with hardly any of those long diagonal balls.
 
On Carroll, I agree the problem is not he himself but whether building play around him gives us the results.
No matter how much he cost, it would be madness to play him because of that cost if it's detrimental to our progress. At the moment we're having far more success keeping the ball on the ground and playing pass and move. Whether or not Andy can fit into that system remains to be seen.
As for Stevie, he's going to want to walk back in, no doubt, but the same principle applies. Everything at Liverpool has revolved around him for years, he's pulled us out of the **** so many times and has been a great servant for the club. Imo though, sentiment can't be allowed to cloud our judgement, we have to decide whether he in his old role will improve us further, and how we accommodate him. If we're playing well without him, he might be forced into a lesser role when he returns, for the good of the team. Not sure how easy that will be for him.
 
I agree with everyone that we are playing well without him, but we will play even better with him. We aren't the one man Gerrard team now and maybe that will benefit him. I would like to see him played in front of Adam and Lucas, just behind Suarez. Gerrard has always had great pace and drives the ball forward and with the energy and speed of Downing, Suarez and either the hard work rate of Kuyt or Henderson (who was brilliant on the weekend btw), I can see us ripping teams apart even more. What makes it even better is that still leaves either Kuyt or Henderson, Meireles, Maxi, Carroll and more to still fill out the bench and change the game.
 
You lot do realise he's still going to be a good player, right? He's not going to become Frank Lampard overnight.
 
I had a little smile imaging opposition players heaving a sigh of relief when they see Suarez subbed, only to then see Gerrard coming on as a sub. What a bummer.

At one point in history, I would have said he was the best (all-round player).

He's not what he was. True, any team would still love to have him- but he's not the dynamo he once was- and he doesn't seem to be able to go long without injury anymore. It'll be fantastic to have him back- but I'm just excited about how well we can do without him. He'll be a huge boost- but we're not dependant on him- and if his groin turned worse and his leg rotted off so he could never come back [God forbid]. We still look set to be the strongest Liverpool team since Xabi left.
 
Corr you lot are all talking about problems. We DON'T have problems. We DO have opportunities. Opportunities to select a starting 11 to beat the opposition and meaningfully change our side during a game. Now that's a situation that we have not had for many seasons.

Add to that the fact that ALL of the players are talking about the squad and playing for the team.
