Jurgen Klopp faces Emre Can dilemma for Champions League final - his heart 'isn't at Liverpool' A lot of fans wouldn’t want Can on the bench, says John Aldridge https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jurgen-klopp-faces-emre-can-14688196
If fit he would be a good addition to the bench but that means someone will be dropped from the bech which is a bit unfair but we have to look and use all our resources in order to win this. It looks like he really is moving on and I don't think we're really going to miss him. Good player but nothing special.
With Liverpool and Real Madrid set to do battle for Champions League glory in a week's time, we take a look at the numbers behind their previous meetings, past European achievements, efforts this season and more… Head-to-head history… Wins Real Madrid – Two Liverpool – Three The first of the five previous meetings between the clubs came in the 1981 European Cup final in Paris. That night, those in red defeated their opponents in white through a single goal from Alan Kennedy. The full-back’s near-post strike secured Liverpool’s – and Bob Paisley’s – third success in the competition in five years. Almost three decades passed before they faced off again, this time in the tournament’s Round of 16 stage, during the 2008-09 campaign. The outcome was the same, though. Rafael Benitez’s Reds silenced the Santiago Bernabeu through Yossi Benayoun’s header and emphatically finished the job at Anfield 13 days later with a 4-0 rout. It was a different story in 2014-15, however. Having ended their wait for a 10th European Cup the previous season, Real were too powerful for Liverpool when they came to Merseyside in the group stage and followed up a 3-0 victory with a 1-0 win in Madrid as Brendan Rodgers’ side bowed out before the knockout rounds. Tournament history… Previous finals Real Madrid – 15 Liverpool – 7 Previous final wins Real Madrid – 12 Liverpool – 5 Jürgen Klopp v Real Madrid… Played six: won three, drawn one, lost two Unlike his counterpart Zinedine Zidane, the Liverpool boss does have previous with his opponents. He faced the Spanish giants six times during his Borussia Dortmund tenure, including four fixtures throughout the 2012-13 Champions League campaign. BVB took four points from two meetings in the group stage before eliminating Real 4-3 on aggregate in the last four en route to defeat in the final against Bayern Munich at Wembley. please log in to view this image They met again in the knockout stages a year later but, trailing 3-0 from the first leg, Klopp’s men were unable to complete a comeback in the quarter-finals and Real went on to lift the trophy. In Kiev... Real Madrid – Played four: won one, drawn two, lost one The La Liga side have visited Dynamo Kyiv on four occasions, losing their first in 1998-99 but gaining revenge a year later with a 2-1 win that included a goal from future Reds striker Fernando Morientes. Successive 2-2 draws followed in 2004 and 2006. Liverpool – Played two: won one, drawn one Danny Murphy and Steven Gerrard were on target when Liverpool defeated the same Ukrainian outfit 2-1 during the 2001-02 Champions League first group stage. Assistant manager Phil Thompson took the reins in Kiev with Gerard Houllier absent for health reasons. The Reds also played a qualifier in the city in August 2006, drawing 1-1 with Maccabi Haifa to secure progress to that season’s group stage and begin a journey all the way to the final. This season (excluding qualifiers)… Wins Real Madrid – 8 Liverpool – 7 Goals scored Real Madrid – 30 Liverpool – 40 Top scorer Real Madrid – Cristiano Ronaldo (15) Liverpool – Roberto Firmino/Mohamed Salah (10) https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/302059-liverpool-fc-real-madrid-champions-league
Xabi Alonso on his CL feeling, Klopp's creativity and being remembered forever Xabi Alonso had a feeling. Last summer, a view was formed in the legendary former midfielder’s mind - a view that has since been fortified by events in stadiums across the continent. Liverpool, Alonso thought, could win the Champions League. “With this team, from the beginning I had the feeling that they could beat anyone, that in any game anything could happen, especially at Anfield [where] they were so strong,” the Spaniard revealed, after sitting down with Liverpoolfc.com in Madrid last week. “You could see that Anfield was rocking in the European nights and they had that feeling, that belief that they could make it. “The games were thrilling, so exciting to play, so exciting to watch, and I had big confidence in what they have done. And now the final is the final - anything can happen.” https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/fi...nso-real-madrid-liverpool-fc-champions-league How Real Madrid and the Spanish media view Liverpool - including confidence over Reds' 'fragile mentality' The Spanish media lift the lid on Real Madrid mentality https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/how-real-madrid-spanish-media-14688800
So as expected corporate tickets and those on sale globally(combined total more than the supporters of the two clubs in the final)have found their way on to the black market, the internet ticket sites are awash with tickets for prices up to as much as £14,000. If one or maybe both of the final clubs(won't happen obviously)refused to play in the final because their supporters are getting ripped off maybe Uefa would listen and change their ticketing policy. A couple of mates of mine both season ticket holders were lucky enough to get tickets through the club ballot, one booked his return flight to Kiev the same night we got through at Roma(paid £900)before he even got a ticket, the other lad waited to see if he was lucky in the ballot and now has a ticket but no way of going because he hasn't got enough money to pay for the well over a grand flight. He's giving the ticket to the other lad to sell at face value in Kiev so he at least gets his money back and a deserving supporter over there will get to see the game. Uefa know/knew the logistics of choosing an eastern European venue for the final and the difficulties it would cause western Europeans to get there, it was more or less guaranteed the the two finalists would be from the western side of Europe even though they chose the venue a couple of years ago. LFC as a club don't come out of this with flying colours, the amount of tickets the the playing staff and boardroom staff took from the allocation is scandalous.
Was reading this yesterday, it really is a mess. I did genuinly think **** it I'm off to Kiev I'll get tickets. Then reality kicks in and the prices were shocking and are getting worse daily.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44184215 It was the moment that said everything about the relationship between Sergio Ramos and Real Madrid. There he was, the 32-year-old defender, veteran of more than 150 caps for Spain, winner of just about every honour in the game, in among the fans, singing and celebrating with them. The second leg of the Champions League semi-final between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich had finished half an hour earlier at the Bernabeu, the Spanish team through to their third successive final after a 4-3 aggregate victory.
they must be ****ing drunk if they think that liability can hurt us. He's more likely to be sent off than anything and he totally suits our style. Between him and marcello they are our biggest hopes. We are never winning a passing contest against this lot so forcing errors will be bloody hard for us to do.... but ramos is one who's more than capable of getting a red and being off after making a stupid error under pressure.
BBC Salford propaganda, delivered to the avid supporters of Utd and other LFC haters to give them hope and inspiration. The final sentence in the full article is about him not scoring for a long time in the competition "but who would get against him scoring on Saturday?".
The cheese has a small class room in the back where they teach you stuff like, how to drink Carling without falling down stairs. RHC wasn't the best student.
TBH I think this has to be a question of being realistic and looking at what we have available Team V brighton Karius Alexander-Arnold Lovren van Dijk Robertson Henderson Wijnaldum Salah Mané Firmino Solanke Substitutes Clyne Klavan Moreno Lallana Mignolet Ings Woodburn If we add Milner in here then he would come in for Solanke and we would see woodburn drop off the bench. so: IMO: to get Can in we must drop a certin LB as clyne could cover both full backs and we must bring a cb (klavan) For me if can is fit enough for 30mins (and he must be at least that no matter what) then I would take him over moreno on the bench. Thats dropping a specialist LB off and covering a number of positions with Can. he could cover CB and all CM roles. it makes sense. We are not going to give guys medals. we are going to try win the thing. But he has to be at least fit enough to run about and close down. If he's swanning about not really able to close down its a waste
