A mother says that her three-year-old daughter almost lost her ear and may need plastic surgery after her piercing became infected. Amelia Moloney refused to take the £2.99 gold-plated ladybird studs out for three nights and slept with them in. Ciara, 28, said that she was left screaming in pain when she tried to take the studs out as blood poured out of her right ear. Ciara, from Armagh, Northern Ireland, said: ‘They were given to us as a gift because she loves ladybirds. Usually I take them out at night but she didn’t want me to because they were a present.

When contacted the seller said she was ‘sorry about the girl’s ears’ but had sold many pairs before and had never had a problem.
She said: ‘They are costume jewellery and £2.99 a pair. Would you let your child wear costume jewellery for three days? Especially a child as young as three years?

Need confirmation of which side of the Christian faith these people fall under before I can make a valued comment. <ok>

Some individuals think the word ladybird came from the Catholic phrase "Our Lady.” The practice of reciting this rhyme was thought to have been used as a warning to those, mostly Catholics, who declined to participate in Protestant services, which had become mandatory since the Act of Uniformity (1559 & 1662). This law made it illegal for priests to say Mass and disallowed parishioners to attend. As a result of this Act, Mass began to be held in secret in fields. Those found guilty of violating the Act were subject to imprisonment and fines and priests to execution. Many priests were executed by being burnt alive at the stake or in some cases being hung, drawn and quartered.

Not sure if this helps much

We don't do things like that and I am horrified/deeply offended etc etc etc that the question should be raised.

Gender roles and terminology can be loaded for people in general but more so for the LGBTQ+ community. A photographer has taken a series of powerful images to deconstruct the binary.

Was tempted to do this as a Wid Ye but I don't understand how they work.

Women aren’t the only ones that have periods. It’s an easy assumption that when we’re talking about menstruation, we’re talking about women. That’s why you’ll so often see protest signs related to the reproductive system at women’s marches, or why you’ll spot Twitter trends asking what it would be like if men had periods. But this kind of chat can be exclusionary. Just as it’s not having a period that makes you a woman, you don’t have to be a woman to menstruate. Transgender men and non-binary people can have periods, too.

Adverts showing boys to be daring while portraying girls as caring could be facing the axe. They could be banned under a proposed new rule to bring an end to gender stereotyping. Other ads set for a ban include those that suggest mums should priorities looking attractive over their emotional well-being. In addition, images and videos showing men struggling to change a nappy or women unable to park a car would be included in the ban. Such adverts are ‘likely to be problematic’ as they show people failing at tasks because of their gender, the Committees of Advertising Practice (Cap) said.

Perfectly sensible to call a halt to this theme of advertising imho
