I think we have to see that the squad isn't good enough for first place and compete in other comps. whether that means gk is the first place to go I don't kbow. imo cb. must have 4. we have 4 but I think some changes will happen. rb. ok lb... look I don't rate Moreno either but who knows. no 6... really issue for me. no 8s. we have lots in what we have. if ox, kieta, Milner and windy enough quality? front 3... no reserves. so for me I would be looking at 2 forwards maybe, one cm no 6 and a cb.
I thought Milner has played their very admirably. Better than Moreno at least. Milner Will probably retire in a few years though so isn't long term backup.
No it's not. However, I feel if we try and correct all our positions over summer we will move more sideways than up. I think Klopp has had the correct attitude, improving a few spots at a time and doing it right. Evolving the squad. I disagree that we need more forwards. Maybe a versatile across the front forward. Besides the Fab 4 minus 1, we have Solanke and Ings who are both capable deputies (if not first team worrying). We have Lala, Milner and Ox, who can't play as a centre forward but can play as an advanced midfielder or on the flanks. Ideally, yes, it would be nice to have more options (and protection from.injry), but it's not a major priority in my books compared to GK and CB (or even LB/MF)
there is no way we can get through a campaign competing close to the top.spot with 3 forward plus 1. there were times this year that even with coutinho we could have done with sturridge being able. we.compete with city sterling b.silva sane silva aguero jesus.
Agree with MITO on this. We take out Salah and Mane, our team becomes lop-sided in attack and we lack the ability to stretch opposition. It takes one injury, one suspension. Also, what have we seen that suggests that Ings and Solanke are capable deputies? What evidence do we have that Milner and Lallana can cover wide? Lallana played their a few seasons ago and wasn't great. Milner played LB and was decent going forward, but that's different to playing as an out and out winger because you're no longer up against a winger being pinned back but a proper full back.
Robbie Fowler considered as Steven Gerrard’s replacement Liverpool are now considering their options for a new Under-18 manager after Steven Gerrard was appointed as the new boss of Rangers, according to the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce.
I would like 3 signings who can walk into our starting line up: - CB to partner VVD. This is number one priority because we cannot go into another season using Lovren. Sell Lovren and keep Matip. Gimenez from A Madrid would be ideal. - MF - I would like both a DM and playmaker but if I had to choose one, I would opt for the playmaker. This is because we have enough workers in MF and we desperately lack players who are confident on the ball. Jorginho and Neves would be very good options. - Attacker - we need someone who can rotate with the front three. Take one of them out and we struggle. A versatile attacker who can either play across the front line or out wide and in midfield. Timo Werner and Lemar would be my picks. The lesser priorities are: - GK - Migs is almost certain to leave. Now do we buy a starting keeper like Oblak or Allison, or do we buy a back up? Personally, I’ve seen enough improvement from Karius this season to give him another season to develop. Oblak and Allison would cost an astronomical amount which isn’t wise IMO. I would prefer it if we signed an older experienced keeper who is content to sit on the bench (maybe Casillas). - RB - TAA is the only RB we have who can provide an attacking outlet. Klopps system is dependant on full backs providing width so it’s crucial that we get a RB who can do this. Clyne is probably the best RB defensively but he is dogshit on the ball. Gomez is still very rusty but he at least tries to play risky balls. - DM - probably don’t need one but it would be good to get a real physical type to replace Can. Ndidi would provide some much needed physicality as well as dominance in the air. Fabinho would be the dream. I would like us to continue investing in youth - Maddison and Sessegnon look like real talents who could really supplement our squad.
This. We need to have back up to the trio. One of them not playing and the attack is not the same because the replacements are not at the same level. The same for the midfielders who are most of them ageing and need refurbishing. Anyone wanting to compete with City next season will have to match their incredible consistency. They hardly missed Aguero or Silva when they were not playing, DeBryune could be sitting on the bench and the replacements would do a good job against 80% of the teams. We are too much of a cup team still. The table doesn’t lie. We will get 4th (fingers crossed) but we are miles from threatening the title. If we are really serious about this aim of chasing the title we have to spend really big. Apart from VVD, Salah, Mane, Firmino, maybe TAA and Robertson (for their potential) we have to get new first 11 players. So a GK, at least one CB, and one full back, 3 new midfielders to go straight into our first team with the few good ones we have as back up and 2 very top front people and letting Ings and solanke go. What must worry Klopp and the top brass at the club is whilst we were pulling trees in the CL knock out stages, we were floundering against the worst 2 sides of the premiership. If we remove our red tinted glasses we will see that we rode our luck in the run to the CL final (all the clubs do that and not just us) but the league is the measure of the strength of the teams over the season.
Why do people keep comparing our squad with Man City's? Yes, they're at the top of the league so are therefore the aim but it's a unrealistic scenario for us, we can't compete with their finances! Yes, we need a bigger squad but we're simply not going to have six top quality players vying for the front three spots.
We keep comparing our squad to City’s because they are the benchmark. They set the standard. Of course we are not going to match them in terms of spending but in terms of quality the closer we are the more likely we will compete with them in the league. > Half of our first team need to be improved. Unless we want to do an Arsenal and Wenger and say (in not so many words) right at the beginning of the season” we are aiming for top 4 and not the title. We will only be aiming for the CL” And fantastic and prestigious as it is, is still a Cup competition and top teams like Barcelona, City, Bayern fall by the wayside to allow others to win.
Their deadwood costs more than our first XI and we already beat them every 11v11 game we've played this season. We are the benchmark for quality, we just need depth.
You are confirming what I said about our squad depth which needs to match City’s. On the question of first 11 you are burying your head in the sand if you think because we beat City’s twice it means that we are the benchmark for quality. We beat City because they are the perfect opposition for us. Even Pep recognised that when he played us but was unwilling to change. They play the way we want anyone playing us to play but unfortunately for us very few teams do that and most teams play like Mourinho’s when they play us.
For midfield we'll have Keita. I consider Neves and Jorginho players who cover DM tbh. Rather than Lemar I'd prefer Fekir. The rest is fair. Oh, and Fabinho would be awesome!
