After watching FLS last night was anyone else surprised at his comments towards Brighton? He pretty much refered to them as the perfect footballing side and didnt have a bad thing to say about them at all...Has anyone watched them this season so far to back up these statements or is it just Bias Claridge doing what he does best? Also taking into account who they've played so far this season and the fact we've only had 2 home games compared to 3 of theirs, i still believe we've made the stronger start.

i thought he was going to cream himself at one point. that would have been even more uncomfortable to watch.

I didn't hear what he said. But Brighton have a very good side and will be strong this season. I still haven't decided who will finish higher out of us and them.

new poster to this site so don't shoot me down too badly.

I agree with most that we need a new centre half and a different striking option if we are to consistently beat teams. I also share Adkins' obvious beliefs that we should now only be signing players who will form part of a premiership squad if and when we get there, I think the signings of Cork, De Ridder and Fox prove this.

Based on nothing more than just who I'd like to see at the club, what about Andrew Davies from Stoke. He was excellent in his spell on loan here and, whilst he is on a months loan at palace at the moment, will surely be available for a good price as he hardly featured for stoke last year and since then they have signed Upson and Woodgate. I'd be delighted if we could get him back here to play with Fonte.

With regards to the striker I like Rodriguez as I think he could play with or instead of Lambert and therefore gives us good options in terms of combinations up front. Baring that I wouldn't be disappointed with a loan signing, be it from a premiership team (Mbambe Diouf maybe) or maybe one from our many contacts abroad. We are an attractive prospect for clubs and players with regards to loans so lets use it if we need something particular in. Just looking for raw attributes of pace and power which is all we lack, in my opinion.

I think brighton have done well but at the same time i think they have had some not easy games but lesser opposition than us,peterborough and doncaster at home, pompey away is of course easy for anyone, the only real tough teams were cardiff and blackpool,on the other hand we have all the teams that are expected to be in and around the promotion places barring barnsley.

Claridge always gives teams the kiss of doom. I would much prefer Saints not be talked about and keep under the radar; keep quietly going about our business, the new ethos of our club.

Putting the usual Saints bias aside, for a moment. I've watched Brighton a few times, and they are impressive, there's no getting away from it. You don't get to win League One, and then top the Championship table by being rubbish. It's no accident they are there. However, it is no accident that Saints are right there too. So don't bother comparing the odd point in 12 or 13, because it's not worth it. Brighton are not suddenly any better than Saints because they have one more point. Last week they had two less, but that didn't make us better, either.

Putting the Saints bias back on, I do think Brighton are the BBC Sport media's darlings. The retired ex-Beeb anchor, Des Lynam is a huge fan, and goes to every game. Hence, all of BBC Football has a soft spot for them. But, taking my Saints hat off again, there's understandable reason for it.

I watched their first game of the season against Doncaster, and they were second best in the first half and I'm not sure how that game would have ended had Doncaster not got 2 injuries.
They do seem to be doing very well, but EVERY time I watch the FLS there always seems to be a highlight of 'record signing Craig Mackail-Smith' missing a sitter :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Brighton have got to play better against us this season otherwise they'll lose by 4 or 5.

Brighton was good last year and it's hardly surprising they're good this year. The media always go for the teams that have come down as potential promotion sides, but teams promoted after a good season will always play well, including Brighton and Saints. Mustn't get ahead of ourselves..early days.

Claridge spurts twaddle so I wouldn't get too worked up about him. He's a skate ****er and whenever he has to say the slightest positive thing about us he almost chokes on the words.
