We're rotten to the core.....

Sunderland Under-23s were relegated from Premier League 2, Divison One, after losing 1-0 to Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium. The young Black Cats needed to win their game, and hope that relegation rivals Derby County lost at Leicester City.

Derby did lose their game 3-1 at Leicester, but Sunderland were unable to take advantage.

Elliott Dickman’s Black Cats side fought hard at Swansea, but fell behind on 52 minutes when George Byers headed home.

Just before, Luke Molyneux had missed a chance to put Sunderland ahead.

After falling behind, Elliot Embleton worked an opening, but had his effort blocked, and Sunderland could not get back on level terms or get the win that they needed.

Sunderland: Strjek, Gamble, Hume, Bale, Taylor, Storey, Diamond (Connolly 72), Embleton, Molyneux, Mumba (Kokola 72), Kimpioka (Shields 65).

Subs not used: Derbali, Patterson.

Elliott Dickman has ran that u23 section into the ground. He ran the u18 into the ground before that. Looks like he's killed off our youth system for a few years.

I believe that it is actually Three Relegations as The Ladies Team will go down, however well they do.

Personally I find that sad.
SAFC's record of bringing on the youngster to international level is as good as any club, but SAFC have decided that they are now part timers, and as such they will no longer be allowed in the Top League. We lost our promising striker for just that reason before the start of the current season.

This is a time when the ladies game is starting to make some sort of impression, and we ditch the only thing that we were doing well.

Are we not weakened at this level because our U23's are in the 1st team, so our U23's are being represented by our U18's?

Nope, previous U23s have come of age apart maja and Asoro(who were fast-tracked), This Under 23 team was ****e at u18 level too.

Disappointing coach in charge of them

He fits in well at SAFC then

Have we ever had anyone good in charge of development FFS?
We got that Ajax guy in at the start
Ian Bramfoot was there for years.
The Ged McNemee and Bally show was in place for years

Probably a very broad overview of all ages over a large time frame

Aye, Robbie Stockdale, reassigned to first team coach, what a waste, taking him from a position of responsibility where he was excelling to 1st team coach with no say on **** all. Big mistake imo.

Looking back over the last 7 or 8 years - other than signing Defoe - have we ever done anything right?

That could even be a mistake, if we went down earlier we'd may have been in a stronger position now. <laugh>

Running from the theory that the only good thing we've done just so happened to be so good it prolonged our agony. :P
