Was reading a article the other day that was basically saying that leasing and PCP is an unsustainable business model for the motor manufacturing industry. The article was a little extreme imho, as it said it could cause another global type crash, but I agreed with much of the sentiment. These schemes are dumping huge amounts of good quality second hand cars onto the market which no one wants, as it's cheaper to have a new one on either of these types of deals.

Was looking at an A4 s line the other day. The fella was telling me about these deals, where you part ex your car against another, and then the old car has to be scrapped. Lots of good cars going to the knackers yard for no good reason.

The motor industry isn’t underwriting the buybacks the finance houses are, it’s therefore up to them where the residual value is set, which is obviously based on their financial projections and based on real disposal values. It’s merely a scare story that’s been doing the rounds for ages as they’re desperate to find a new PPI type selling scandal. There’s very little issue with buybacks flooding the market, ultimately it’s a matter of controlling the sale of specific models to ensure that there isn’t a glut at any point in time in the future

    2 seperate issues
    1. oversupply of used cars
    2. Finance being given when it shouldn't.

annot really see the problem as all the PCP "sales" does it make up for the loss of the huge business car fleets which have disappeared over the years. Should also point out Motability has for years been ,by a mile, the largest owner of cars in this country and that is basically PCP though in 95% of cases without the final purchase option and the manufacturers have managed that the sales through varying the offers depending which of their models they want to shift.

Does seem ironic that for years lots of people used to claim disabled people were given free cars and now for rveryone the norm is to lease in exactly the same way as motability.

PS You can use Motability scheme to Hire purchase or pure lease, though if very expensive adjustments have to be made then the lease period can be extended and an option to purchase at the end , but the vast majority are pure 3 year leases.

Probably quite rare over here? Looks quite a lot like a Toyota GT86 from the photo.

    Looks like a Lexus.

Doesn’t look like it has any heritage and a bit soulless for me.

If you don't have the upload a file option, get brb to look at it, happened to me not long ago.

If on a laptop, just copy and paste the image, it's that easy.

Been a fan of Skylines' since Gran Turismo 1 on the PS1. Cracking cars.
That game also convinced my old man to buy a Mitsubishi GTO years back.

You have a valid point mate. I was once sent on a course to learn car recognition just by certain parts of the car i.e headlights etc

    Another nice car IMO.

My old mine got rid of his car and asked me to come view another one he liked. Went to the garage and it was only a skyline. Not necessarily the nicest looks wise but what a car

He didn't buy it in the end as he didn't realise it was in the performance category, for want of a better word. And my younger bro told I.would look better behind the wheel of it <laugh>

As kids in high school in science we could see cars coming down the bank of the road next to our school and our game was to see who could recognise it before it got close enough to recognise

Datsun stanzas or 120y's ford escorts, sierra, cortina, Toyota corolla, Honda accord etc all distinct

    Not so much now
