The irony

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-43489462

UK new passports post breixt in BLUE cos red is apparently an evil eu conspiracy... will be printed in.... FRANCE!

<laugh>

couldn't make this **** up.

This one shows the hilarity of our politics. . Labour remainers bashing the leavers for this and leavers arguing free market competition lol.

End of day other than protectionists ....brexit should make no difference to us putting this type of job out on the market. If India can do it cheaper they get the contract etc etc.

It would be more of a scandal for brexiteers if the British company got the job then imported French workers into Britain to do the work lol

biometrics is a law suit minefield. Guns are easily bypassed, only work for once off i got the cops gun and turned it on him moment. The counter point is if it fails to register and cop is shot fumbling with it... law suit.

GPS in gun easy. makes perfect sense. Like serial number its the first thing to go. There's no real way to do it unless its in the firing pin TBH. a gun is after all merely a tube with a chamber on one end to open and take round and a mechanism to hit the percussion cap with a pin. You can make a firing pin to replace whatever.

IMO chemically fired rounds are the real thing to obsolete.

Rail guns or electro-accelerated rounds are really the thing to have. If you could do it. Pull the pistol and its electrically fired and accelerates round down barrel.. in that case the electronis would have gps built in and you could have it all in a seals electronic system that would be a little bit harder to crack open witout runing.

THe issue with this system of course is nobody can build one hand gun size that doesn't simply melt itself and it requires massive power.

You can google rail hand guns and see.

simple solution to american crisis is stop making bullets. by the time they shoot them all off in the air they must use huge amounts
Wasn't really thinking of cops guns with this as I assume their guns are registered and issued. More for private owners.

Biometrics can't be far off. It's on mobiles...ok it's still clunky but another couple of years that's got to improve. And it can only be done at the gun shop where your details are registered. By all means you can sell the gun but that person has to go to a shop to get it transferred and hence registered.

How many kids would be saved if it doesn't matter if they find Daddys weapon etc.

As for gps ... yeah it can be removed ...but make it as difficult as possible to do and you get a location the action is being carried out.... gets you closer to a stolen gun than currently.

None of it is took proof but I don't like the let's do nothing because the perfect answer is impossible that the gun lobbyists espouse.

US President Donald Trump's lead lawyer for the special counsel investigation into Russia interference in the 2016 election has resigned, US media report.

John Dowd, 77, is reported to have concluded that Mr Trump was increasingly ignoring his advice.

Other reports say Mr Trump had lost confidence in Mr Dowd's ability to handle special counsel Robert Mueller.

In an email to news outlets, Mr Dowd wrote: "I love the president and wish him well."

The special counsel is investigating possible links between Mr Trump's associates and Russia, as well as whether the president has obstructed the inquiry.

Last week, Mr Dowd called on the Department of Justice to immediately shut down Mr Mueller's investigation - initially saying that he was speaking for the president.

But he later clarified that he was speaking for himself and not on Mr Trump's behalf.

To testify or not?
Mr Dowd took over the president's legal team last summer.

Under his leadership, Mr Trump's team of lawyers advised the president to co-operate with the special counsel.

Mr Trump has recently begun publicly criticising Mr Mueller by name, rather than just his inquiry.

A lie-detector test taken by former porn star Stormy Daniels shows she's telling the truth about the affair between her and Donald Trump when Melania Trump was still recovering from the birth of their son.
Stormy Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, took the test on May 19, 2011, in Las Vegas. The Wall Street Journal got a copy of the report by polygrapher Ronald Slay. Stormy took the lie-detector test back then as part of an agreement to sell her story to Life & Style magazine for $15,000. But the interview with Life & Style wasn’t published at that time and Stormy was never paid, according to people familiar with the matter.
Polygrapher Ronald Slay said in the report that he found Ms. Clifford’s responses about having unprotected sex with Mr. Trump in July 2006 to be truthful. His report said the test was inconclusive about the truth of her statement that Mr. Trump had promised her a spot on his reality show, "The Apprentice".

Reagan filled his cabinet with hawks like Casper Weinberger and Richard Perle. They talked a big talk. We were convinced WWIII was on its way. It was the Cold War, which was the Ali-Frazier of international tensions. USA vs North Korea is like Ali vs some guy in your street who boxes.

So what happened with Reagan's cabinet? They spent a weekend invading Grenada - who can point to it on the map? - and even less time bombing Libya. They couldn't even beat the Sandinistas with all that extra contra funding. Meanwhile, the Berlin Wall fell and the Soviet Union imploded, which had nothing to do with western rhetoric. History is unpredictable like that.

When Trump was elected, an old friend and I both agreed he reminded us more of Reagan than Hitler. And I was reminded of Gil Scott Heron's B Movie.
