The reason VVD fee was so high wasn't solely down to his ability (and having watched both play at my club I can say Alderweireld is marginally better). It was the fact he had 5 years left on his deal. Length of contract is a huge driving force behind a transfer fee.

Depends where he wants to go really, he has obviously been tapped up already. He just needs to see out another six months then he can negotiate his own contract and signing on fee with his new suitor. He is as good as gone!
