I would like to keep him, but if he makes that impossible then my choice would be to shift him to Europe.

I’d ensure that we slap a massive sell on clause into the deal to prevent his ever going to United.

As a final resort, I’d sell him to City for a mint.

there’s no way we’re waiting a year to sign him on a free transfer, Not a chance.
Just as well, cause his contract isn't up until 2021. In 2019 a buy out clause becomes activated, hence the speculation. He won't be free even in 2019/20

True.

But I suspect that’s the way Levy will be thinking.

Levy won’t have much bargaining power as Alderwiereld holds all the cards with his contract running down. He’ll cash in to the highest bidder or risk losing him on a free

So peanuts basically then. If he doesn’t sign a new contract soon then I’d expect levy to be entertaining offers, because he could get close to double that for him atm
I would agree. At his age, we could get £60m for him at least (essentially this will be his last big contract) and so it's a matter of deciding if he's worth £35m for 1 year. Unless he renews of course. Not ruling that out totally. Him and Vertonghen are good mates. If he can get £120k pw out of Levy (L'Oreal) he may be happy to stay.

My understanding is...

His contract expires in 2020 but he can leave in 2019 for £25m if he is not given a new contract before hand.

Not sure what you think he's signed there.

£60m is too ambitious for somebody who is 29, but I think anything up to £50m is achievable. As you mention the next contact is his last big one so winning trophies and securing top wages will be top of his priorities. Both issues that spurs are unlikely to be able to offer him, or at least not as much as other clubs.

Given that he’d be in demand, he could reasonably be asking for £150k upwards which plenty of clubs would be willing to pay him. I think Kyle Walker opened the genie’s bottle regarding wages at spurs and others will now be looking to do likewise.

In some ways it’s a shame (but not so much because it’s you lot) but wages are king now in the game and I honesty think that some spurs fans put far too much stock in loyalty.

aka the Arsenal way.

Exactly. You lot are going to find out just how much that stings over the next few years when your top players are lured away by big wages and the promise of winning the league.

He’s under contract until 2020. However, if no new deal has been signed by the end of the 2018/19 season, then the £25mill clause kicks in.

So, basically, he’s under contract both this season and next.

True, but the way levy is likely to be viewing it is that in the summer he’s worth £50m, next season he’s worth £25m and the summer after that he’s worth nothing.

Wow!

I can see that you have a lot more invested (emotionally) in this than I imagined. I’ll try to go a bit easier, Tel.

You're just saying he's got one less year than me on his contract. Given it's speculation (none of us know what's in his contract) you may be right and NSIS has the same date. Point is if he leaves in the next 2 windows a club needs to negotiate with Levy. The 2 after it's £25m. The one after he leaves on a free as far as we understand.
