The following teams are now unable to finish above us

Bournemouth
Brighton
Crystal Palace
Huddersfield Town
Newcastle United
Southampton
Stoke City
Swansea City
Watford
West Bromwich Albion
West Scam United

So the lowest we can finish this season is ninth

Is it worth mentioning the noisy neighbours could still theoretically finish in nineteenth?

Michael Carrick has announced that he is retiring at the end of the season. No surprise in that.
A great player.
He won 12 major trophies including a clean sweep of all domestic and European competitions (and the World Club Championships).
Never given much of a chance by England given the central midfielders available at the time. A shame.

He was better than all the ones available at the time but the English managers during his time valued running about like headless chickens over skill. Pirlo wouldn’t have got in either

Just to put this into perspective...13 years ago 8th would have been our highest premier league finish.
