As many of you may (or may not) be aware, our good friend and comrade Paul Donnachie was recently arrested and put on trial by the government, as well as the university, for nothing more than expressing distaste towards an Israeli flag and expressing his views as to the use of said flag as a national symbol by those who find it acceptable to mass murder, torture, exile and humiliate the palestinian population in and around the wonderful state of Israel.
He has recently been found guilty by the state trial and is awaiting sentencing, yet has already had his "studies terminated" at the University by none other than the lovely Ron Piper, who I am sure we are all familiar with by this stage.
It is unacceptable that such a good, kind guy like Paul, who was doing no more than expressing his opinion, has had his life turned upside down in this way by both the university and the state.
We can't let things like this go anymore. If the university (and state) get away with imposing such ridiculous sentences and following positively repulsive practices, they will keep imposing more and more draconian laws and policies.
Further, we can't let our university keep hushing up what its doing! We need to get publicity on these sickening events EVERY TIME! If people have any idea's for posters, flyers, stickers, badges, press releases, protests, letters to the uni management and "notable" figures in St andrews, we should get them together asap (probably freshers week)
In the meantime, solidarity with you Paul! We're all thinking of you and hope that everything gets back on track for you. Don't let the bastards get you!
Hasta la Victoria siempre!
