Sunderland full back Josh Robson has been told by the club he won’t be offered a new deal, just hours after turning in a man of the match display against bitter rivals Newcastle United.

The 20-year old turned in an excellent performance as the Black Cats defeated their near neighbours in the U23 Premier League International Cup last night.

Another promising youngsters career at Sunderland ends before they've been given a real opportunity in the first team. If they are good enough at U23 level they should be tried, especially when we are under performing like now. Not the usual excuse that they will damage their career playing in a poor struggling team. Rubbish. Could this be one of the reasons why we are struggling & enmeshed in failure? :emoticon-0112-wonde

You've got to feel sorry for the young players who've been here over in the Short era. Truly one of the innocent victims of incompetence like the support staff who've lost their jobs due to rich people in elevated positions gambling.
I wonder how many truly adequate footballers we've produced who's careers we've stunted by being so under prepared at every level above them.

And there’s quite a few of these kids 22 or 23 years old not kids really
Never given a chance

I saw Josh Robson earlier in the season and he looked a lot better than Donald Love to me. Guess who got the chance and fluffed it, though, and he will possibly be involved tomorrow, although I have yet to read of him playing well, never mind a mom accolade. It's the same with Beadling, and its maddening, players of ours not considered good enough to be given a chance. It's not as though we are spoiled for choice, its an attitude that stinks of fear. Put them in, were going down anyway with the current level of performances from our favoured few, its now or never imo.

These things are a lottery to some extent mate.

Its sad for the lads involved, but its the same for every club.

The mags are having a clear out as well.

Its tough for the younguns to break through

It's a sad fact that it is happening to a lot of clubs (especially here in the northeast). What it also means is that in years to come we will have very few home grown players, and a steady influx of foreign players which will ultimately have an affect on our national team.
