Slightly off track but that pic came from Robin Hood 2010.

Why do we always seem to have these issues, yes we are going to spend and sign and then nothing happens, as previous posters have said we need to spend to get the players to get the CL. it's not rocket science

Yes - we need to spend but in order to spend the club needs to be able to afford to spend.

Therefore to be able to afford to spend the club needs to reduce its' squad size and wages spent on the squad.

Or would you rather the club go into even greater debt?

Like I've said, Ensil, you're never quite sure with Levy, if it's can't spend or, won't spend. You can't go around making sweeping statements about competing at the top level, as Levy has done; and then turn around and effectively say, "Well we WOULD compete, but we can't afford it, of course"

Could this just be Diarra's way of trying to give Levy a kick up the arse and finalise a deal or am I over-thinking this?
Probably the latter, unfortunately.

Or give Madrid a push towards a better pay-off to get him off their books?

Yes I would rather have a greater debt. Spurs have a very small debt compared to others. This draconion way of running
the club is suffocating any aspiration. Foolhardy I be , But Spurs is about emotions not bookkeeping.

Regardless of how much debt you'd like us to take on, we'd still be unable to compete financially with the clubs around us.
We need to spend smarter than they do, not as much.

Diarra played 39 games for Real Madrid last season and the talk of him being outcast by Mourinho are greatly exaggerated.

I agree we can't compete with a few clubs above us, but my sensible comrades the way we are
being run we will struggle to compete with the likes of Sunderland, Aston Villa etc.
Mediocrity is not exceptable.

That is a bit strong, i'm sure no matter what happens we will still be in the top 6 this season.

For me as long as we remain in the top 6 then i'm happy. We can't compete with the others at the moment unless some billionaire who is willing to pay silly amounts to build a stadium and fund new players comes in.

We obviously can't compete with the Citehs and Chavskis of the world, PNP. But, we can do far more than we currently are to compete, IMO. Like I've already said, we have as good a squad of players as we've had in many a year. We just need to retain what we've got, and make one or two additions, and we can seriously compete for a top 4 position.
This is an opportunity to be at the top level for a good few years, if we only invest now, instead of letting it all slip away again. Which it surely will do, if we hesitate.
We may never have this kind of chance again for many, many, years.
