For those clubs outside the Top 6 it also heralds the start of 'Diversify or Die' in revenue terms! So, as expected, the domestic TV income is on a downward spiral. Apparently subscriptions are down by around 20% for Sky and BT. That's bad news.
Bad news for clubs outside the 'Big 6' as the number of viewers for them is going to drive 'The Big 6' to ask whether they should go elsewhere
Bad news for us supporters. 'The Big 6' will chase more money. It's what they do. So....
Bad news for what little money trickles down the football pyramid.
- Game 39 [40, 41 and 42] in China?
- Existing fixtures played at increasingly weird times to satisfy the foreign TV viewer?
- A two half season, with the Top 10 playing each other twice in the second half of the season for the league title and the bottom half fighting it out for the relegation spots?
- A European Super League?
- Little chance for '£20's Plenty' and improving the lot of fans.
Bad news all round.
As we said a couple of days back, a Palace or similar is reliant on 60-70% of their revenues from TV.
