    Morning all,

Good result last night, looked comfortable for most of the match (sloppy in places).

Luis Suarez is a fantastic player - full of energy, strong, skillful, unpredictable etc etc. It's clear that he's the main attaking force in our team and this was evident last night when he scored one and set up the other two.

My concern is that are we becoming too reliant on Luis? He's been our best player during the start of the season and has pretty much had a hand in all of our goals. Without Luis, we seem to lack that cutting edge, the final ball, the moment of magic. Are we in a similar position to when Torres first burst onto the scene and we became reliant on his goals?

We have spent a lot of money on good players to improve the squad depth however it only ever seems to click when Luis plays. Do we need another 'unpredictable' player like Suarez? Someone who can produce something out of nothing?

I think the rest of the squad will adapt and chip in with assists and goals as the season goes on.

Any team will miss a world class player like Suarez if he was out for a few games but I think we will cope.

Gerrard and Suarez on the same pitch is something i'm looking forward to.

thats true actually, every single goal (competitive games) hes been involved in. I am becoming slightly worried about this tbh, but we'll have to wait till gerrard gets back to see properly.
And now suarez also seems to be getting involved in transfers as well, with Coates :p

Possibly at the moment we are, but that will change when Gerrard returns, and his return is imminent as he's back training. I think we'll be a more exciting side with both Gerrard and Suarez in it. However Andy Carroll getting his first goal of the season will do him the world of good.

We're always being accused of being too reliant on somebody. All teams should play to their strengths, and whilst he's playing so well, we'd be mad not to take advantage of it. The test will come if and when he isn't available for any length of time.
Having Carroll is intended to give us different options to Suarez, although that hasn't quite taken off yet.
I think we've got goals from a lot of different areas potentially, it's just that Luis is on fire at the moment.

I dont think we rely on him as such, he is an exceptional player so he is likely to stand out.
We've always had the tag that we rely on Stevie G but we have managed without him more often than not.

Its true we have to avoid relying on Suarez now. But I feel the team has more individual personality's than it did when every one relied on Gerrard and Torres. Of course Mascerano and Alonso's presence made all the difference back then. Now we have Adam, and Lucas has become very good. Those two players have become key elements, as football is often won in the midfield now.
Hopefully Downing can add to that list to, especially with a partnership with Enrique brewing down that left flank. Carroll must be looking forward to that getting better and better.

My worry is that if there are a few injuries to major players in one go they may begin to rely on Suarez.

Well, we also got beat 3-0 by West ham with Suarez; we only drew with Sunderland and Kenny says that was partly because he played Suarez.

People said we couldn't win without Torres and Gerrard. We beat Utd without them and they still said it.

    Ho to the hum.

True but I recall him setting up Johnson in the 3-1 defeat to West Ham, and he scored against Sunderland. I'm not saying that we will win every game that he plays in

As mentioned earlier, it's good news for us that he's made a big impact and every team needs a player like him. But I'm concerned at the gulf in the performances in which he plays in and when he doesn't.

True - I have to remember that we have a few new players that are still adjusting. Once they feel more comfortable, I hope they can begin to assert themselves.

    Good point.
The new players are settling in, and they have as of yet started to express themselves on the side, it may take a bit of time, but they will. Thats why it looks like at the moment that all the good we do revolves around Suarez. Some of it is obvious because last night he was involved in everything, but that is more about him than the team. Thats who he is. He does get involved in everything. Its what makes him such a brilliant footballer. I would prefer if he were involved in everything instead of poncing about like our former number 9 did for quite a while.

Refs are conspiring against us to make it look like we're reliant on Suarez. First Andy Carrol v Sunderland, now Henderson. I don't know why they want to do this but I suspect they're being paid by the Sun so they can slag us off without having to figure out why.

Who would you rather have in the team? Carroll or Aguesro? Do you think Aguero is better than Carroll?

Aguesro isn't proven in the Prem, internationally or in any league I've heard of. At least Carroll has Championship experience. Aguero is way better than both of them though.

    Too early to tell.
Carroll hasn't got Agueros skill, but Aguero doesn't have Carrolls presence or heading ability. Therefore I cannot answer the question.

What about Wayne Rooney? Would you have him or Chicarito over Carroll?

I think at this moment in time Rooney is better than Carroll- no question. However- Carroll has a lot of room for improvement and who knows who will ultimately be the better when Carroll hits his peak.

The added advantage with Carroll is that he doesn't try shagging the grannies in the stands.

Yeah, quite likely. Although when Carroll hits his peak Rooney will be an old fart- so Carroll may be the better player then.
