I'm not a fan of the Masons. I have had to work alongside some truly awful and incompetent colleagues who were never reprimanded, disciplined or sacked because they were in the same lodge as the senior management. I've received the funny handshake from people within the industry, both in the civil service and commercial sectors. It is absolutely rife despite assertions it isn't.

An example of the level of ignorance - one such dunce who was on the same pay scale as me couldn't read or write (I am not even joking, he was going to night school to do English classes even though he was English) and would demand to know why the local authority didn't insist on a White History month and why there wasn't a Men's Day or why men couldn't take time off once a month just because they didn't have periods. He was sh.it at his job but paid the same as me despite the fact that I'd got a degree and I'd even been advised he was promoted after I'd left.

There are twats in all walks of life, I don't even exclude myself from this assertion, but The Masons create an un-level playing field where it is who you know and not what you know or are worth that counts.

Wouldn't surprise me if there were some here on GC with their trouser leg rolled up right now.

Got outdone by an illiterate, racist, sexist ****** and blames the Masons <laugh>

To be honest, if joining the Masons meant more money, more power and getting preferential treatment I would join too.

Lots of organisations are just like the Masons anyway. The Civil Service and political parties, for example. I once applied for a job in a department of the DWP and whilst I sat in the canteen preparing for it one of the other candidates was sitting at another table being coached on what to say - by one of the interviewers! Imagine my astonishment when it turned out they were friends and the person got the job.

Still bitter after all these years eh. It was a shìt job anyway. I packed it in after a couple of weeks <cheers>

Judging by your posts, it was a pretty fair assumption.
He's still an knuckle-dragging, Chelsea supporting, homophobic, misogynistic, racist who's reading level is Janet and John.

Whereas I am....oh, I see your point.

Corruption in local government was rife by the way. I got offered bungs from contractors and know for a fact those of the funny hand shake disposition at my work were sponsored at the local lodge by the directors of said companies. It went all the way to Director level.

Being the rampant left-wing socialist that I am I refused any form of bribery over the £5 bottle of wine limit imposed by the rules. Talking of which it nearly came to blows over a crate of champagne one year but that is a tale for my memoirs.

I'd get the squeeze of the flesh between the thumb and forefinger which I assume was either "Hallo to you fellow Mason" or it could have been "Hallo, do you fancy a w.ank in the bogs after?"

So, unless I miss my guess, when somebody gives what I think is a clumsy/weak handshake the **** was sizing me up to see if I'm a gang member? <yikes>
