he said he can tolerative a defensive (boring) team if he thinks the team is inferior. What more is their to say?
He didn't say that though. His comment about being defensive was nothing to do with Rafa's CL team, it was an added generalised comment about what he could and couldn't tolerate with defensive formations <ok>

yes but it was in response to our debate on Rafa and his defensive nature in the CL.

@Zanjinho you can confirm this for our friend please.

I've said more than anyone that I'd rather play good football and win ****all <grr>
You will have read how much I disliked the footy under Houllier. I often missed games because of it. Football is supposed to be entertaining!
Rafa was different. I understand your point based on the team structure but Torres, Alonso, Gerrard and Mascherano were not boring to watch!
They're was also zero expectation in the CL year because ate squad was a bag of ****. We had no right winning that trophy!

I can tolerate a manager being defensive if it's the best option considering the two squats involved in a game. I can't tolerate a manager getting several windows and maintaining that defensive stance.
Here are his posts on the 'debate' about Rafa. Which one of them talks about Rafa's defensive play in the CL?

how about this post

(I wrote) he said he can tolerative a defensive (boring) team if he thinks the team is inferior. What more is their to say?
(zanj wrote) It wasn't boring to us at the time because we were managing to win despite everyone under the sun expecting us to get demolished! We were ****e so we had to defend. Winning is always enjoyable but the actually game play when defending for your lives? Not so much.

That was only his first year btw. After that we had structure but maintained an attacking flair until G&H cane along and ripped the sole out the club.

he said he enjoyed it. He said it was defensive. this in reference to the CL.

So even though in the prior to and fros zanj didn't explicitly say rafa was boring in the CL run but alluded to it, he's pretty explicit here when i've maintained the argument that defensive = boring.

Yeah, Rafa was so defensive in the CL he won away at Barca( only English club to beat them in the CL at the Nou Campe)and Real Madrid in the Bernabau.

<whistle>

We "beat" Barcelona, Napoli and Bayern to win our CL. I can't believe people would say we fluked it and played boring footie to do it either <whistle>

tbh I don't take anything you say seriously but as it's a discussion board I saw an opportunity to ..... discuss

To be fair, Europe’s elite are hardly going to be nervous about seeing Ings in the squad are they.

Hold on a minute Bobby. You made your assertions about him tolerating boring CL football under Rafa [which he never said btw] before he made that post you've just highlighted. After you'd 'accused' him of something he never said, he wrote that post <ok>

Except I never said it was boring football. I said it was defensive BECAUSE we had a **** team and had no other choice, adding "it wasn't boring to us"... ie it may have agitated boring to fans of other clubs.

I also said a defensive (still didn't use the word boring) setup is acceptance in the early days of a managers reign but not one they've had time and money to build their own team.

Lastly, I said despite the structured approach from Rafa, he always maintained an attacking flair too.

He's been trying to twist my words throughout. Only works if someone is being defensive to protect their club. It won't work with me when I'm just sharing my honest thoughts/feelings on the subject.

4-1 away at OT. 4-0 against Madrid in a week. Those were the boring days of rafa with Gerrard and Torres in their prime.

Someone tried to twist mine earlier.

I could stand boring winning football.

Sure if Klopp was losing 3-4 each week and around the relegation zone people would be happy to see him go defensive.

I go football for the social aspect now more than anything, it must be what Sunday worshipers get from Church. If the end result is the team wins and friends and family are happy then that’s what I’m after. Don’t get me wrong, I would prefer to be watching City’s brand of football right now.....but I’m as likely to switch teams as I am to go to church.

Bad football and a cup over City football and nothing every day......any cup, just one please!!!
