I don’t think your logic works. No one is arguing that it should be forbidden for women to dress sexily. The job of catwalk models is to sell sexy clothes. What exactly is the job of the F1 grid girls? Back in the day it was to entice punters in. It probably worked. These days it probably doesn’t.
Yes. But they will remain despite that while they keep the viewers tuning in. The viewers will eventually work out that they can see sexier women elsewhere and the weather forecasts will be more informative if handled by meteorologists and they will lose their jobs too.
I like looking a sexy ladies, what bloke doesn’t.. I suppose it can be classed as objectification, but nobody forces em to do it. And I bet the pay ain’t bad either. In general, more men are interested in sports - especially those like F1- than women. So, putting a few birds in there probably helped bring in the punters in the early days.
See now you have made the assumption that they are not trained meteorologists just because they are good looking - are you not therefore guilty of objectifying women just as much as the person who likes to see a pretty girl at a race track?
Remind me never to have a night out with these Spurs fans. They'll be demanding the bouncers put the lasses with short skirts and big cleavages out of the club
It's just changing tradition to cater for a butthurt minority, it's the same everywhere you look, especially in the U.K. Wolf whistling at women will be classed as assault soon.
I didn't make such an assumption. if they are trained meteorologists then they can wear what they like and their jobs are safe so the whole discussion is moot.
I repeat - the people who run F1 are driven entirely by commercial issues. Your final sentence raises all sorts of other issues but anyone whose quality of life is affected by a fear of being banned from wolf whistling is a pretty sad case. Mostly because it isn't going to happen.
Would you have been as confident with saying certain companies could no longer call little girls 'princesses', if I made that preposterous claim 10-15 years ago? You chat very matter of fact, as if what you says goes. The 'Pede are on the lookout for a new target you know
A while ago if you went to a car show there were women in bikinis draped over every vehicle and most of them were up for removing at least one half of their costume if sufficiently encouraged. That doesn't happen now I think mostly because the car companies have worked out that it doesnt sell cars!
Yeah, I can still remember the birds draped over cars like the E-type when I was a kid. Back in the days of the old Earls Court motor show.
Your opinion is just as valid as mine. Sorry if it doesn't come over like that. The princesses point is quite interesting. Some friends of mine are grandparents to two young children. They are genuinely shocked by how many times people they meet such as shop assistants say something like aren't you pretty or what a pretty dress to the girl. The boy doesn't get treated the same. How is that a good thing?
Because girls are cute and vulnerable, so let them have that little bit of extra attention. You need to man up and loosen up.
Largely because car manufacturers have figured out that on average 70% of the decision process for purchase is made by the female partner in a heterosexual relationship. The walk on girls etc are a bit of throwback, personally they’re just meh to me, but I can understand how others feel differently - on both sides in fairness.
The whole thing is batshit. Men sexualize women and always will, this will never stop. Women need to own that ****, and if they can monetise it, all the better. You cannot legislate against nature. Besides, have you ever seen a bunch of chicks out on a hen night? They put us blokes to shame mate, they aint no sobbing victims. This is some proper Milquetoast ****.
What is the definition of "sexy" clothes ?? How do they differ from other "clothes" that women may seek to buy ??
Surely this all comes down to consenting adults ? If women want to work in industries that sexualise them, then as long as they aren't coerced into it, I don't see the problem. The logical conclusion in the other direction is that we end up with women wearing Hijab's and clothes that don't show any of their curves, just in case a man becomes aroused.
I’d have to agree with Bod. Any heterosexual guy has always eyed up the ladies with a view to getting into their knickers. Witness ‘Wid ye’ thread. You can legislate all you like, but you won’t change basic human nature. And it’s not something you’re taught by a sexist society, it’s just natural.
