But i was only told last week when questioning bringing players in that we were skint and due to FFP and we didn't have any dosh? I think I said then that people don't actually know what the club can and cant do.

I think he will end up at Spam anyway. Apparently we are after a lad from Wigan
Well I'd say today has made it pretty bloody clear what the club can't do, and thats spend money. Are we all accepting this as fact now? For that is what it is.

Interesting post. We could have well enquired about players. They could not have been available, too expensive or not wanted to come to us. Who knows?

Hope, optimism, wishful thinking etc are quite often the only things that keep a footie fan going & without that would go crazy. With that taken away for QPR what is there left apart from wallowing in self pity & to watch us drop deeper in the mire<wah>

I’d like to know the last transfer window that we didn’t bring in a single player, I certainly can’t remember one.

Wasn't that during our last season in the Prem when they wouldn't let Redknapp spend any money and he walked ( hobbled ) the following day?

whilst we did not bring in anyone, maybe the youngsters will see this as an opportunity to prove that they can cut the mustard..

A relegation battle is generally not the best place for youngsters mustard cutting. Of the ones I've seen come in for the first time the last few weeks, only Smyth in his debut game looked like he didn't give a ****e about the opposition. The others have all looked a bit overawed somehow. Still, very early days.

To think only 6 years ago we were the 3rd or 4th biggest spenders in the Premier league. That for me (as someone who has been going for 40years) was the most exciting time I can remember since the mid 80s.
Oh the anticipation, all of these stars, household names coming to Rangers....what could we achieve with these Champions league winners, International players all. I couldn't wait to go and see these Superstars in action, I was proud after all these years in the wilderness....what could possibly go wrong?................

Its a sad state of affairs, in years gone by we all watched in anticipation of who was coming in, which stars were gonna sign for how much all glued to deadline day on Sky .........................................
This January we just sat and watched in dismay as player after player left the club on loan or released, then finally on deadline day we just sat hoping that certain players stayed, that we didn’t lose our best players for peanuts just to satisfy the need to balance the books.
Now there will be some on here throwing blame at all and sundry but I think they should now realise that it is as I said several times WE ARE SKINT, and Holloway for all his faults is gonna have to go with what we have, no big names, no saviours just hard graft, youngsters and the hope that there are 3 teams worse than us.
We have Jude the cat.
ST Jude is the patron saint of hope and lost causes never was a mascot more appropriate, let us hope he’s working overtime between now and the end of the season.

Is Smithies that good?, did anyone ask about him??

Let's just say if it wasn't for Smithies we'd have gone down last season and probably would have been also-rans in League One this season. Was it six or seven penalty saves alone last season? Without all the other Man of the Match performances...

So why did nobody want him, many teams wanted keepers but his name was never mentioned.

I remember going to that first game of the season against Swansea in 2012 I think, hugely excited. Here we go, proper team now, got through the survival season by the skin of our teeth, very solid premiership manager, genuinely exciting players signed, we’re going to kick on! And for the first 20 minutes or so we looked really good. Then Swansea scored and essentially everything since has been ****. A very good half against Spurs away a few weeks later, an away win against Chelsea, the home leg of the Wigan play off semi final and the last minute of the play off final itself......Err any more high spots since then?

I am really not surprised or dissapointed.

I think we have real potential talent in our youth, but we have difficulties in integrating them into the first team. I would focus on investing in both 1:1 "technical" as well as "psychological" coaching - I'm serious, as I am sure it could only help.

As our under U23's have very good results and seem to be free-scoring, I really wonder what would be the "outcome" if we took that U23 team and that style of play as our "reference" and improved, or upgraded, it with a "couple" of players from our "regular 1st team". For example, put Smithies in goal, add a defender or two, plus one one or two in midfield. I really wonder if this "U23+" team would be more competitive and goals scoring that our current format? I am sure that they would be playing a different style of football.

I would be interest to hear any thoughts and insights from "people in the know" who actually watch the U23's.

TBH i am not suprised either. January window has always been known as the 'desperation window' where prices are overinflated. As long as we have enough to stay up that should be the goal. As I said readdress in Summer, get rid of Hollow and start again.
