Agreed, i'm pretty relaxed on signings but i must admit i have started to get a bit more excited with this one. Promes / Sisto , anyone who can help replace Mane will be a big boost to the club as a whole. Setting my self up for disappointment on Thursday morning but until then...........believe.
It's a bit late for somebody to be joining the race with a day left of the window. Since we're still clearly chasing this I imagine the board must be confident as a day doesn't seem long enough to complete the deal for our backup either.
I love the way fans find it so easy to spend someone elses money. It’s actually not about the money - it’s about retaining a decent reputation for negotiations. That said we did get about £15m more than most of us thought for VVD. I expect there us still some wriggle room. Once went in negotiation course which basically indicated you take a hard line but soften at the end to ensure everyone walks away happy.
My wife spends my money pretty well. The way is see it, 30mil is going to be a pretty average price for an international player before long. As a club we'll have to accept that if we wish to continue being competitive in the PL.
I agree with you. Doesn't make it right though. I think the best thing that could happen to football in this country is for the TV gravy train to simply dry up.
The way I see it is most of our first team players could be valued at 15-20m in today's market, up from 10-15 when we bought them. Which is why in order to improve on them we are now looking at spending around 25m as the next tier. In January, buying a decent clubs best player who they dont want to leave mid season. £30m is a reasonable increase on that and what many are reporting as the buyout clause.
http://www.itv.com/news/topic/quincy-promes/ "The Holland international is understood to be interested in a move to St Mary's, but negotiations are proving tough due to Spartak's understandable reluctance to sell their star turn. Promes is currently in Marbella with the Russian team at a training camp, with a friendly scheduled against Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia on Wednesday. Time is running out for Saints to sign the attacker as Pellegrino looks to improve his side. Asked about the possibility of movement before the window shuts, the Southampton boss said: "It's possible. It's probable. "We want to bring a player but it is difficult for us."
The thing that confuses me is everyone seems to agree there's a buyout clause of around £30m so why does Spartak's reluctance matter? I'm confused as to what we are actually negotiating.
Apparently Promes is due 15% of any transfer deal, hence why Spartak want £35 million in total. I'm sure it's just haggling between the sides.
The way i understand it is that they want 35m euros. which would be £30m. but yes there's confusion as to whether the 15% is included towards the buyout or not as Spartak don't receive it. but i imagine thats more to do with lawyers than negotiation. in my head though they value him higher than the buyout clause and will only sell at the buyout clause price because its in the contract that they have to. i can't see them going lower than that so i don't know whats there to haggle. Obviously i'm wrong as they're doing something but it just seems weird to me.
I think I read something yesterday that Promes himself owned 20% of his contract or something like that. So maybe Spartak want €30m after the 20% that Promes himself would get. Too late to the party, already been discussed. I got the percentage wrong too! I’ll jist shuttup
I said ages ago that i think we have no chance of pulling this transfer off. If we manage it then its a big great signing
