He should also be made aware that groaning whenever you make the slightest error is the British way of offering encouragement.[/QUOTE] Works for my missus every time.
Been thinking the same tbh, its old news now time to move on. I got pissed off on Sunday when before the spurs game they talked about Watford sacking silva for a good 10 mins, not even a bleak connection to the game that was about to be played. Sky have a habit of doing it, it's pretty irritating at times.
No offence but unless you watch every minute of Monaco game, you've probably not seen enough of him to make a proper judgement on him. Estudiantes fans I've seen wax lyrical about him and wonder what went wrong for him. He was expected to become a regular in the National Team when he was there and was chased by some very big clubs in Europe. It hasn't really worked out for him at Monaco but they don't play the type of football he's suited to, hence the minimal game time.
Wonder what Mauricio will say about this at 2, considering he pretty much said he was our player last night.
As with every new player that joins us, they start with a clean slate and I will only judge them after a period of settling in at the club. I'm hopeful that he will add something to the squad that we are missing and that he will have a successful time as a Saints player.
All am saying is people can judge a guy who seems to have a poor scoring record. It's a bit like saying you can't judge a guys past in work when he comes in for a interview at your place. Nowhere have I judged him as I haven't seen enough, all I am saying is it is weird to criticise people for having doubts. Just because he could be different here.
You've been pretty negative about him from what I've seen and you're trying to back that up with what minimal footage you have seen from him, and some stats you've pulled from wikipedia/transfermarkt. His goalscoring record in the league per 90 minutes played over the last 2 seasons is better (or equal to) than Austin, so I'm not sure how you can interpret that as 'poor'. Re your point in interviews - that isn't the point of a job interview, the interview is to judge the persons character and basically check they aren't bullshitting on their CV which is very easily done (in most cases). It is weird to criticise him when the criticism is based around looking at some numbers on the internet for a club where he didn't suit their style of play, and where he was never a focal point of the team, like he will (presumably) be here.
I haven't criticised him once... all I have been saying is people are free to do so. All my arguement is about people who want ro judge him are free to, I haven't even looked up his stats so I have no idea where you got that from
Maybe you aren't basing it on stats, but you're defending people that are. Unless there's people on here that have actually watched Monaco very regularly over the last 3 years, which I highly doubt.
Think it would be a bigger concern if he was first choice at a club with the goal scoring record he has. Third choice at Monaco, who don't play to his strengths, and he comes on mainly as a sub. Hard to judge him.
They still have a right to criticise, the worse they can be is wrong which isn't life changing. Just think people get to weird over people having different opinions and end up shouting that person down. I am guilty of it in the past and now see there is really no point in it, just ignore the ****.
Fans of other Ligue 1 clubs are complimentary from what I've seen, and so are the journalists that cover Ligue 1. They're realistic about what sort of player he is, and what sort of level we're both at and almost unanimously agree it's a very good fit. The majority of Monaco fans posting online have probably hardly seen him play tbh, considering 99% of them live no where near Monaco, and even if the ones that have are comparing him against world class talent.
That's how I shall be looking at it. The world is his oyster now, lets hope he grabs the opportunity with both hands! Any chance of an international call up? Hmmm
They have a right to criticise, the same way people have a right to tell them that their criticism isn't well founded.
Who was the last Argentinian we had playing for us? Can only think of Gazzaniga but sure there must be some others I am forgetting. Osvaldo doesn't count technically
Gets boring when it takes up about 5 pages of a thread though. I bet loads of people thought something had happened, instead all it is randoms saying the same stuff over and over
Pellegrino talking about him now. Says he is what we need because he has aspects of Charlie's game that we are missing currently. He has a big body, he knows how to hold the ball up, he is a good finisher. Also says he has known Guido since he was 19 so he understands his game. Said regardless of playing time, moving to Monaco has shown him life at a top European club and that is a positive experience. He says we still need to finalise the deal and finish testing, so he didn't want to comment on whether he will play against Brighton.
Something has happened though (bid accepted, medical, etc), people are discussing it and sharing their views. I don't see what the problem is? I thought that was how forums worked...
