According to BBC Sport this morning, Stoke City Maestro Tony Pulis stated: We need new players, everybody in this football club from top to bottom knows it - unquote. Well there you go!! I don't think Pulis has the heart for it after losing out with Cameron Jerome, still time for Carlton Cole though!
Nicky, It's very reminiscent of Nero and his fiddle. On the one hand we want (TP's words) "Players with Premiership experience", but it would appear that we can not meet the wage demands of such "superstars". Plan "B" should perhaps involve the likes of Whiitingham(Cardiff),Lallana (Southampton),Maynard (Bristol C). I predict no arrivals.
I predict three new arrivals. Two will turn out to be absolute gash after initial excitement about signing decent young prospects, and will eventually be loaned out to Rotherham United. The third will be greeted with disdain, but turn out to be a very good player to the club. Remember the signings of Etherington, Pennant, Shawcross, Begovic, Walters... Hardly any of TP's best signings created great excitement at the time they came to the club. It doesn't do wonders for the supporters' opinion of his transfer policy, but I'd prefer things this way round than signing big name players who generate a lot of excitement, but then fail to perform while at the same time draining our bank account.
Fair point Peadar, I'm sure that Mr Coates could do some "creative accounting" and write it down as a tax loss. Or perhaps Pulis should ask his old mate 'Arry for some advice!!! Swervy, could do worse, I honestly thought that we should have made a grab for DJ Campbell! But on second thoughts NO, he is small, has pace AND scores goals - absolutely NOT a Pulis type. I still cannot understand why we got rid of Lawrence and Kitson (ok Kitson I can understand) and god knows how much money for Wilson AND THEN play him out of position, but then again I'm not a football manager. Something I DO have in common with Pulis!!
Its not the player per say that I think we are concerned about (players like Cole etc would be an improvment on squad whether we like it or not), its generally the positions! We have not been linked with a single Full Back, a Creative Midfielder, Wing Cover or a Quick pacey striker! We have signed and been linked with two CD's, two defensive/holding midfielders and striker that offer very little to what we already have! Hence we are not, nor are we likely to improve the strength of the starting eleven!
I've just seen the interview with T.P. He looks like he doesn't give two hoots what WE the fans THINK or SAY! i.e. This Club, we have a wage structure,.... As Nick keeps saying SOD IT! We go with what we do have which, I half expected anyway. IF we do not sign any player's I will certainly be on T.Ps back... BIG TIME.
Well said Potts, I am keeping my head down until the end of the transfer window!! Having said that, apparently those blackberry pickers looke a bit usefull!! Pulis might pick THEM and make a crumble
Potts this is exactly one of the many reasons why I dislike Pulis. He genuinely does not give a flying fig about the Stoke faithful, he proves this every single game when he fails to acknowledge them pre and after the match!
AAAAAAGGGGGHHHH Well there you go I am NOT Spartacus, I am...... Ah wait till the 31st BHOYO - oh no forget that I could give my self away. Yakki Dah
Nicky sorry to be a pedant but it's actually Bora da Welsh for good morning!!! Lived there for awhile so a little fluent lol!
That must be plan C. The signing of the Dah brothers Yakki and Bora. Do either of them play midfield?
It was one of my main gripes last season, whether he means it or not he does come across as looking down his nose at the fans who dont whole heartdley agree with evrything he says and does. Before anyone jumps on the bandwagon and gets this into a for/against TP thread, its just MY perception and I'm sure he doesn't mean too do so!
Waddo That's why he really anoys me.. I have met Mr P twice and he is one of the "nice guys" in football. But, he comes across as sooooooowwwww bloody negative. And why i've often wondered.. Is this ONE of the reason why we seem not to be able to attract the better player's. Take Neil Warnock, he's up for it big time.. is this why QPR can attract certain player's I would have liked at Stoke City? I'm sure like Smither's say's he doens't mean too come across that way but it bugs me. Anyone see Warnock almost "pushing" his player's towards the QPR fans after their win at Everton?? That is the kind of guy I would like to see in charge. Tony some advice.. Lighten up and forkin smile now and again. DO something like RUN towards the Boothen End when we score a goal.. not just stand on the touchline with hands in pocket's. headhurts....
